Description Hunter Penguin
Scientific Name: Ballistavis
Length: 12 ft
Weight: 400 lbs
Habitat: beaches
Region: Antarctica
Ancestor: Emperor Penguin
With a similar body plan to the African alleis (to which they're not related), hunter penguins are large aquatic birds that return to shore to sleep and breed. However as the name implies, they've become ferocious predators.
These birds swim through the coastal waters of Antarctica most of the day, and snap any creature they choose as prey with their massive, bear trap bills. When larger prey is spotted a prey item, they will slowly glide up to 15 ft away. Then they blast through the water like a torpedo and stun them with a strong shoulder charge, then bite them repeatedly until the blood loss causes shock. Their main prey includes fish, squid, and the common otteal.
When these birds return to land, they cannot walk upright. Their so specialized for swimming, they have to slide on their bellies to walk. As such, they retained their belly blubber as a shield against scaring.
