Europe is covered in jungle during the Eocene, a Leptictidium (we'll call her Leaper) is searching for food for her and her offspring, but the hunt is interrupted by the local Gastornis, nearly having them for lunch, then moves on.

Leaper and her kind had survived unchanged since the Age of the Dinosaurs but their descendants think they own the roost, birds are successful like mammals but they got big. Leaper takes her young to the canopy where the monster birds can't get them. On the forest floor a group of Propaleotherium is forging for grape under the leaves. Godinotia are sleeping on the branches while Eurotamandua eats the insects underneath the bark, and one of Leaper's offspring take advantage of a free meal. But the Eurotamandua does not like sharing, nearly swiping him with his claws.

A Propaleotherium wanders off from the group, but is unknowinglyΒ in the Gastornis' ambush spot. The Gastornis is feeding on a nut fallen from the trees, but sees the Propaleotherium and the hunt begins, the small horse spots him and runs off and the monster bird chases after him, and alerts the group and the small horses take off, but the bird catches him, killing him with his bone crushing beak. Titanomyrma feed off the remains.

Leaper goes into her nest with her young, and asleep for the night, Godinotia wake up and travel though the forest, the Propaleotherum are more alert in the night, since the attack, one of females has just given birth, young are more vulnerable to predators, the crocodiles wait for their next meal, the Gondinotia was unaware it wasn't being watched, and the crocodile attacks taking the monkey with it.

Is Eurotamandua a type of anteater? Β And if I recall, Titanomyrma is the giant ant that ate the poor Gastornis chick.

Yeah, and since we're in Eurasia in our journey in mammal evolution, mammals are getting more and more successful, and we'll see a mammal that take life in water to a greater extreme.
