Description Splash staring Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah. The Mermaid movie made by a Disney company a few years before the Disney film the Little Mermaid.

When I was working at the carrousel at Disney, a little girl came aboard dress as Ariel and she had a birthday badge on. Written on the badge was her name. It was Madison. I told her that it was very ironic because there was another mermaid named Madison in the movies.
The next day I was a little blocked on what to draw during my lunch break. Then I thought of that little princess and had a wild idea. Ariel and Eric in the movie Splash. Since I grew up on the film and I've seen the cover over a billion times, I didn't have to look at anything for it.
Of course, I did have to look at a picture of the NY skyline. And I can tell you, I can't draw a skyline at all. Of course, I had to put in the Empire State since the Twin Towers are on the cover and poster of the real movie.
AND!!!!. . . I did look at a picture of Prince Eric because I have never drawn him before. I had to get his eyes and smile right and I guess it turned out okay.
For all the things I did, I give credit to the originals big time.

Well whatever you do, don't ask Ariel to pronounce her name in Atlantican. I want to keep my computer screen.

If that is Atlantican.  Seems more like whale.

Well some high pitched frequency tongue that I don't understand. Did you say Disney did that one to?

Well, it was actually Touchstone pictures that made it, but Disney owns Touchstone.

Oh I see. I think it was a better love story than the Little Mermaid.

I'm imaging that Prince Eric is Allen Bauer and Princess Ariel is Madison the Mermaid.

Of course.  After all, Splash is like a modern tale of The Little Mermaid.

They say that before Disney's The Little Mermaid debuted in 1989 there was Splash which was released in 1984.

Exactly.  It's a modern version of the story.  Not just the Disney story.  ^^

I have a little objection about the ending of Splash, and this is certainly nothing new (in fact, it's the same one I use against Ariel a lot). I understand that Allen, like Ariel, is blinded by love nearly to the point of insanity, but does he really have to give up everything he had known in life up to that point to pursue a seemingly great idea that may or may not work out for him. What if his love for Madison isn't enough to overwhelm something he doesn't like about being underwater? It's just common sense people.

I heard there was a lot more nudity in Splash than there was in The Little Mermaid.

Although, a non-sexual variation of nudity for girls is a symbol of innocence.

DisneyFan-01 In reply to AndytheB-Artist [2011-09-08 04:29:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, not entirely. Daryl Hannah's character Madison has long blonde hair that covers her breasts but you can only see them at least once or twice in a second when she's underwater, and there's a rear end scene when she shows up naked at the Statue of Liberty and all the men there are taking her picture. ^^
