Description A little something in time for V-Day.
Took me a few days to finish, but I think it turned out okay, even if the shading is a bit on the iffy side and I think Marina's head is a tad too big, but still, the pic looks fine.

Enjoy.

Another thing I didn't notice 'till I revisited this: Marina sleeps in her earrings?

Personally, especially with big earrings like that, I'd take 'em out whenever possible. I mean, I have this pair of beautiful silver earrings that look like dragon scales, and I love wearing them, but they feel like an anchor on each of my ears. And I definitely wouldn't sleep in them.

Just wondering. ^^

I never realized it until someone else pointed that out some time ago. I myself sleep with my earrings on, but then again, mine are little loops with dolphins on them.

True. I'll sometimes sleep with gold hoop earrings in, but most of the time I take 'em off. xD Just curiosity, I suppose.

'Probs just my very inexperienced eye, but the shading kind of looks like the sheets are dirty.

Or maybe its just my dirty mind.

I love the way you tried a different style, though, instead of the usual Disney-screepcap style that I like so very much.

You have really improved TREMENDOUSLY over the years. It's lovely to see an artist who is actually making an enormous effort to improve their artwork, especially in the face of all the people spamming your page because of various articles about you on the internet. And even more annoyingly, ignoring on purpose how much you HAVE improved just so they can keep leaving aggressive/non-constructive comments for their own sadistic enjoyment.

That being said, I do agree that your shading technique could use a little work, and there are little details that are a bit off (position of ear, length of fingers, etc.), but the anatomy is decent, the pose is endearing, certain parts are downright adorable (I don't know why but I find her braid so charming), and overall this is very sweet.

Um...did Marina take the growth serum from Alice in Wonderland - because now she's almost the same size as Silver. It's sort of better - when sex is concerned. But it's horribly inconsistent. Her face used to be about the same size as the distance between his eyes and mouth - which was correct when comparing normal humans to Silver - but now it seems you've either shrunk him or made her bigger.

bella is a bit of a Sue, but that's not why she reminds of your character. it's her looks and personality. I think Meyer wanted to make the vampires in twilight scare monsters, but failed at this because no one is actually scared of them, but attracted to them (especially in edwards case). I don't mean to be ffensive, but are you really in position to critisize character in a book you haven't read?

DisneyFan-01 In reply to XXXJacobloverXXX [2011-03-10 18:57:13 +0000 UTC]

It just that when it comes to those monster stories, I'm all for the originals. I'm all for Team Bela Legosi, Team Boris Karloff, and Team Lon Chanely Sr. and Jr.
Now THESE guys are the real deal with vampires, monsters, and werewolves. They can kick the Twilight guys butts.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

XXXJacobloverXXX In reply to DisneyFan-01 [2011-03-10 21:43:34 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, although neither of these are originals. Bram Stoker's Dracula is the "original". I prefer twilight for some other reasons(certainly not jacob). Besides, how can any of them be the "real deal", they're all just fictional characters after all?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DisneyFan-01 In reply to XXXJacobloverXXX [2011-03-11 06:18:14 +0000 UTC]

I know. Stoker was a genius as was Mary Shelly and all the other older writers of the horrific monsters.
With Boris Karloff, Bela Legosi, and Lon Chanley, they made those monsters what they were meant to be. Dracula for instance, at first he may seem handsome and charming, but once your back is turned or you think your safe in your sleep... the monster comes for your blood.
Nowadays, the vampires are hot guys the girls go crazy for and they glitter. Vampire shouldn't glitter. Richard Simmons glitters, Elton John glitters, pixies glitter. Not vampires.

DisneyFan-01 In reply to artificus [2011-03-11 06:11:06 +0000 UTC]

I read the book. But it was Bela Legosi who made Dracula what he is. I mean when anyone says the name 'Dracula' he's always the first face they see before they think of the others like Gary Oldman or whoever else did him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElayneDaCrazyPenguin In reply to DisneyFan-01 [2011-03-19 17:11:59 +0000 UTC]

It's just that you once said that you couldn't read passed the first few pages of 'Harry Potter' because it was 'too boring'. I was expressing doubts over how you could read 'Dracula' if you thought a book as 'simple' (not the right word, but it will do) as 'Harry Potter' was boring.

Of course, all of this I said in my first post, basically. Look, I'm sorry if I sound like a real jerk, but I've been in a really crummy mood lately. I shouldn't be taking it out on you, and I apologize, but now I'm getting really frusterated. Not only due to the lack of actually READING what I'm writing to you, but also because it looks like that big long post about 'Twilight' I left for you a while ago really WAS a waste, because you never replied and you're back to the stupid and ineffective 'Vampires don't sparkle!!11!!' 'debate'. ... but that's getting into something else. Sorry.

artificus In reply to ElayneDaCrazyPenguin [2011-03-28 19:44:59 +0000 UTC]

though, i have to say... i couldn't get past the first pages of harry potter too... because i indeed thought it was boring. and yet i read dracula. so... i don't really get your point here...

yay for useless debates

Insanely old comment, but yee-haw!

Dracula is one of my favorite novels... it's just so, well, grotesque! I mean, seriously, reading about the horrible things the vampires do is just DELIGHTFULLY horrific! :-D Bram Stoker forever!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

artificus In reply to DestyPanthera [2011-04-02 19:41:35 +0000 UTC]

to be honest... while reading this novel, there were evenings when i actually was too scared to turn off the light.
i just love the typical romantic elements, like the extasis of all the feelings the characters have - each time it's the highest of emotions
also, the book is so modern already, yet i was amused about the things they didn't know back then - like the knowledge of different blood types... they could have killed Lucy only by giving her the blood of all these different persons
unfortunately i didn't finish it yet, because i found out it's the favorite book of a person i really don't like that kind of kills my motivation to continue.

I did so read it. A good story. I still likes the old film better, but the book was enjoyable. Mainly the part with the undead Lucy. Very creepy in words and all. Even though Dracula is described as a guy with a mustache, I think of Bela as THE face of him.

artificus In reply to DisneyFan-01 [2011-03-11 17:08:11 +0000 UTC]

uh... i don't think that... becasue you weren't talking about it.
you said that the persons people connect with Dracula and other monsters are Bela Lugosi ect.
Well, I do not immediatly have some actors in mind when i think about a literary figure.
i think, even if almost every single piece of world literature was made into a movie, we should still make a difference between the book and the movie version. because - as you may know from experiance - the movie is never like the book. never.
you, however, are talking about actors all the time.
so, are you also talking about the Twilight movie, i assume? and its actors? (since you didn't read the book)

artificus In reply to DisneyFan-01 [2011-03-12 19:29:42 +0000 UTC]

me too! though Pierce Brosnan is very close behind
BUT the movies are not like the books at all... i was pretty shocked when i got the chance to read one. The new James Bond movies (you know, the ones with Daniel Craig) are much more like the original idea from Ian Fleming.
But I still don't like them at all.
