even though these are old drawings, its still something that shows up in your drawings of Marina, its her breasts, and no i am not one of those people who just irritated of nutity and whatnot, if you look at my DA page its ordinary anyway back to buisness,
i have not been reading alot about you own character, but im aware shes a virgin, but anyways her breasts, they are way too purky, because a clevage like that only comes from a serious push up bra

god im really bad at staying at my point

POINT: boobs=cleavage only comes from serious push up bra

Okay, first off: A denim skirt wouldn't flow like that. It'd be tripping her, and she'd be waddling like a penguin... plus they're hideous, so I doubt that any sane person would wear it.

ALSO: I don't think that every single guy would be head-over-heels in love with her, let alone approach her in that LONG denim skirt/bag.

Err... my three cents on fashion XD;;;

It really depends on what kind of denim you are talking about - nowadays you can do nearly everything with the damn thing, which includes making it buttery soft. I love denim :3

She has different kinds. Some of silk, some of polyester, some of demin, some cotton, some satin, or whatever. I never said she was wearing denim in these in the first place and I never said she wear the exact same thing everyday. Same colors and all, but not the same fabric.

I know these are old, so I personally feel critiquing the art would be a waste. I do think it wouldn't be a bad idea to do another one of these "practice" sheets though, to help continue further your study in anatomy and poses. - That's always critical for any artist.

A little off topic, but I just can't help but ask it: How in the world does Marina do a *thing* in those heels? I have a pair of gorgeous black heels pretty much exactly like that, and while they look stunning, I'll tell you right now I do good to walk across a freaking parking lot in them, much less fight bad guys and run around.

There's just no way a girl could do all the things Marina does in those heels without having the most screwed up calloused and blistered feet in the entire world.

That being said, you could always just use it as a cheap excuse for Marina to get a foot massage from Silver.

I have recently made the decision of letting Marina have regular fancy slip on shoes with like a two inch heel instead. I have a pair of those myself and they are so comfy that I can't feel them all day. But I am so used to having her wear high heels because she wore them all the time when I first created her as an anime styled character. And that maybe because I always thought of all super hero anime girls and how they always wear heels over six inches high and they can still run, fight, jump, and all that crazy stuff. I guess that anime for ya.

Haha, yeah, if I'm not mistaken, don't all the Sailor Scouts wear impossibly high heels?

I can definitely see the attachment to the pumps. - They are beautiful, I love mine and they make a girl's legs look endlessly long! But oh dear goodness are they uncomfortable.

Hehe, you can get Marina some of those Dr. Scholl's heel inserts! She can be like a little walking talking Dr. Scholl's commercial. ("I fight bad guys AND swab a ship's deck, all because of my Dr. Scholl's heel inserts! Come on ladies, try 'em.")

In all seriousness though, changing the shoes is probably a good idea. I'm a complete sucker for the realistic aspects of a character. - You know, where they *do* get blistery feet and they can't just run around in like, a bikini in 20 degree weather and so on.

There's just so much you can flesh out in a character in little details like that! They just seem so much more alive that way, y'know?

Of course I also plan to have her go barefoot a lot. It's something I totally love to do. It feels good on my feet, even when it's hot outside and the stones, gravel, or asphalt is hot. I can't help it. I love it.

Aquae In reply to DisneyFan-01 [2008-11-24 04:56:52 +0000 UTC]

I too adore being barefoot. I really don't like wearing shoes. But I have to wear shoes on rough ground, or really hot ground, like you said, because they're sensitive and they *hurt* if I don't! But if I'm inside, or on cool concrete or in grass, ect. I definitely go barefoot.

As far as Marina goes, I'd recommend every so often showing the side-effects of being barefoot, maybe a possible foot "injury" (Like getting cut on a sharp rock.), ect. Of course, I doubt you'll have your character running around barefoot on craggy rocks and thistle, haha, so I wouldn't imagine that would be too big an issue.

My character, she's set in a world that's comparable to our 1800s (With obvious differences, such as floating ships, ect.), so I'm often having to research shoes and things that she would wear. I do have her go barefoot sometimes on her lover/Captain's ship though, as I imagine, it being a nice boat, the wood is probably pretty smooth. (Though I could be wrong there, I'll have to ask my boyfriend, it's his character's ship.) And she doesn't do any real "labor" on the ship, she's an entertainer and the Captain's "lady", so there's not really much issue there as far as being barefoot, like dropping stuff on her feet or anything.

I dunno, I'm a dork, I probably way over-think this kind of stuff. But I find it fun.

Some cute poses here.

A couple of these (the top-left in particular) tend towards having the torso a bit too long in proportion to the legs. Also, in the second from the right on the top row, her right hand seems to be backwards - the thumb should be on the outside for that pose.

Anyway, keep it up. I always enjoy seeing others' rough work.

It might be the Disney/anime in me talking, but might she be a bit skinnier?

Otherwise, I love them all, and possibly hope you'll consider doing more. Some more relaxed, some very active. Sweet

Say what? I'm not promoting, or "premote" as you put it, anything. I'm only saying by being somewhat into animation, and a fan of Disney.

Never said I was, you assumed. And I'm not getting touchy, trust me... I'm only saying I already resolved it with another fellow DA whom was mature about it.

Now scram

If you don't mind my asking, was that a serious question? If she were much skinnier, she'd look malnourished.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cerberuswaltz In reply to GoldenPoncho [2008-12-05 19:56:33 +0000 UTC]

Very serious question indeed. It wasn't a "you must follow the pedigree!!!", but more of a suggestion. Marina looks fine, but I'm
giving a slight suggestion to possibly help her look more into the Disney. If she were to look malnourished, so be it, it's not a crime.
It's a cartoon, things there are much different, and that's generally how they are, y'know?

But hey, no problem

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GoldenPoncho In reply to Cerberuswaltz [2008-12-05 20:41:29 +0000 UTC]

She's no bigger than Belle here. [link]

If she were any skinnier, it would look ridiculous. There's a fine line between cartoon style and bad anatomy. Besides, stick thin girls are a tradition Disney needs to break away from anyway.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cerberuswaltz In reply to GoldenPoncho [2008-12-06 07:13:05 +0000 UTC]

Nice pictar, but take a second look. Belle is way skinnier then she needs to be, as to her arms and head, and possibly waist. I'm not saying make them twig skinny, but to a limit. And to say it would look ridiculous any skinnier is pure opinion, as I was only suggesting mine.

And in case you'd say, "stick girls" are what Disney started out with, and I'm only stating the style. There's nothing wrong with it. If you're so intent on breaking away, break away from that kinda stuff.

GoldenPoncho In reply to Cerberuswaltz [2008-12-06 16:10:49 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps she is a bit skinnier now that I look at it. However, this is a better example. [link]

Cerberuswaltz In reply to GoldenPoncho [2008-12-08 01:14:43 +0000 UTC]

Cinderella is totally different. She's rather average, but her hands themselves keep to the tradition, and face, so as you can see, one way or another, as long as they have it.

I'm not saying ALL girls need to be skinny, I love people who come in different sizes, it makes people so unique. But within this... it's like tradition. Mulan herself is also average, but she has the charm, too, still. One last time, only suggesting her to try it, and see if it works. Marina's shape isn't off or so, but it isn't around the area
within the girls. Maybe the hips, but I dunno?

(How do you do the link thingy? I've been trying to do that forever and still forget how, lol)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GoldenPoncho In reply to Cerberuswaltz [2008-12-08 01:35:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, I mean Cinderella was one of the first Disney princesses, so if she isn't stick thin, then why does Marina need to be. Where you suggesting her be thinner because she looked a bit off? Because I think a better solution to that would be to make her hips a bit wider.

Oh, and to do the link just past a url address into the comment box and when you post it will say "link".

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cerberuswaltz In reply to GoldenPoncho [2008-12-08 01:37:26 +0000 UTC]

OH, ha ha ha! That sounds way easier!!!

She was, though, but Aurora was oversaw by Disney herself in a sense,
as he wanted her to get that... feel. I guess Marina doesn't need to be, now that you would say it, I guess I did mean the hips. I mean, you kinda see it to, ja? Or na?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GoldenPoncho In reply to Cerberuswaltz [2008-12-08 04:00:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. On an actual woman, shoulders are generally one and a half heads wide and hips are usually two heads wide (opposite for men). Of course in a cartoon, it could be scewed a bit, but it's usually best to keep close to the general proportions.

And as for the outfits, the professor suggested that the characters to wear the same outfit in each pose by pretending that it was this one person at a photo shoot or something like that.

Hmm... 2 and 11 in particular I'm not slating them, btw. Is just cause she's in a dress and I thnk that's what makes it noticeable to me. Like women who play the cello, there's something unlady-like about it lol.

That's fair enough., I see that. I just mean in future. I know she has a jacket and you do her in some dresses. Off the top of my head I don't think I've seen her in many different outfits :S I could be wronnngggg. I was gonna offer a suggestion of putting her in other character's outfits, and then got an image in my head of her wearing Silver's baggy clothes and him with his arms stuck, tangled in the dress which is all ripped from him trying to put it on. Lol. Maybe that idea isn't the best one!!

I was once told that it's hard to run in high heels, but I read in a book that if you wear heels much shorter than your own foot size and know how to keep good balance up, it's possible to run in those shoes Marina is wearing in that pose.
