Description Big Jet is playing video games with Zipp Storm to decide where they will go for lunch. Just as he wins and chooses Red Robin, Ember Lumen comes in to remind him of his chores. He insists on waiting for Rocket to help him, but the three realize they don't know where he is, noting that no one has seen him in the two weeks since his breakup with Sunny Starscout. She comments that she has tried to call him but he can't pick up the call, but Big Jet finds Rocket's cellphone in between the couch after calling it.

Frustrated, Ember asks Big Jet if he doesn't know where his best friend is, to which he says that he was busy. She tells him that if he doesn't bring Rocket back to Disneyland by tomorrow, then he'll have to fire Rocket. Not wanting his friend to be fired, he goes to his and Rocket's room to look for clues.

Big Jet gets a call from Zipp Storm who says that neither Twilight Sparkle nor his parents have seen or heard from him. Searching in their room, he finds a postcard of "City of Blues" under Rocket's mattress, a bizarre place consisting entirely of people struggling through many things (breakups, mental illnesses, homelessness, and other) signed by Depressed Jazz, much to Big Jet's annoyance. He then thinks that no one has actually been there. Ember, overhearing Big Jet mentioning City of Blues, surprises him when she reveals she knows all too well of the town already, having been there on at least four different occasions, her homelessness, her flaming mental illnesses, her grief over the loss of her family member, after her breakup with Wade. She informs Big Jet that the only way to get there is to feel blue.

Big Jet goes to Zipp Storm's house, and convinces her to fake break up with him. She is initially reluctant and fails the first attempt, but she subsequently acts it out well enough to the point that Big Jet almost believes he actually got dumped. Fortunately, Depressed Jazz sees the whole ordeal and buys the breakup, taking him to the City of Blues.

When they arrive, Depressed Jazz flies and plays sad music, prompting Big Jet to state that he hates the song. With him gone, Big Jet sets out to investigate the town. He is disgusted by the residents' unhygienic and robed appearances. Arriving at a market, he asks a local about Rocket, but is mortified to discover that the stranger is Rocket, and is taken aback by his drastic appearance overhaul as Rocket is normal, but now has a 5 o'clock shadow and is feeling downcast. Rocket shows him the beach house where he's staying.

Rocket takes him to his beach house, inhabited by five "roomies" who wait impatiently for him to bring them food. The house, much like the rest of the town, is trashed and unhygienic. He decides to show Big Jet around town, only for him to notice how everyone has little life in them everywhere they go.

After an out of tune music practice, Big Jet explodes at Rocket, having had enough of the aimless lifestyle of the City of Blues. He tries convincing him that the town is horrible and that Sunny Starscout is just another girl among many that he'll get over, but to no avail. Finally, he gets through to Rocket when he notes that he's been there for two weeks, but Rocket was there for a few days. He tells him that due to the residents' aimless lifestyles, nobody knows or cares what the timeline is because they are either too depressed or in denial, before showing him what he really looks like through a mirror. Having taken a good look at himself and his surroundings, he lets go of his loneliness and breakup grief and decides to leave. However, Rocket's roommates, needing someone to bring them food, give chase. They finally lose them by jumping a drawbridge, where on the other side Depressed Jazz flies them away.

They make it back safely to Disneyland. Rocket acknowledges that the City of Blues was lame but simpler, and takes advice from Big Jet to simply move on from dating and focus on what’s best for himself. Ember Lumen appears and yells at Rocket to finish his tasks, and leaves greeting Depressed Jazz. Big Jet then gets a call from Zipp Storm, and she's complaining about having to go to the fancy restaurant instead of the Red Robin to get back together with her.
