This depends upon the situation. I will usually connect two feathers by drying paint between them. For single feathers, I use my left hand to hold it steady and my right hand to do the painting. As the paint dries, the whole thing becomes more sturdy.

Very nice!
You know, I think that some kind of gloss could help the feathers join together and reinforce them to make it an easier surface to paint on. I use polyurethane; a couple coats.

very helpful! I was wondering if you would be doing a tutorial about how to frame the feathers and make them look presentable, i dont have much experience beyond basic prints or flat canvas... not delt much with shadow boxes

I don't think I'll ever do a framing tutorial but if you have any specific questions, just ask and I'll do my best to answer them!

I always paint mine before adhering them to the matboard, but it would be helpful to get them stuck down to something before painting. They would certainly be less prone to flying off the table or moving around!

I use the spray when I think about it, but I usually forget and it's really not a big deal. The only thing I like about the spray is that it makes the feather look kinda shiny and the colors are a bit more saturated. But be careful about getting it on the fluffy parts of the feather (you know, the part near the quill) cause it makes it look all ratty and it sticks to itself.
