Victory Day in Russia and former Eastern Bloc countries commemorates the surrender of Axis forces in World War II. Victory Day is celebrated in Europe on May 8th, but when the terms of surrender were accepted by Germany, it was already May 9th in the Soviet Union.

So why, then, did I choose to make a picture celebrating Russian Victory Day instead of Eurpoean Victory Day?

Because Naleyna is a bear, and bears are more Russian. Plus, the Soviet front deserves more recognition. It originated some of the more impressive stories from World War II.

(And yes, I did really take all that time to draw St. Basil's Cathedral. Or most of it, at any rate.)
