Description Hmmm... I thought I had submitted this one a long time ago, but it seems to have evaporated from my gallery...
The character is Vampire Hunter D, from the anime of the same title. He's not my character, but I've been drawing him, writing about him, and role-playing him for years.
Thanks to Hideyuki-sensei for making him up. ^_^

Thanks!
I'll resist the urge to point out the errors.

Amen, he's a genius writer and you are a very talented artist. I also like your background, although it clashes with the shading of his figure... sorry it was one of the things i noticed but as a whole its a great idea ^_^

Looking back (this piece was made years ago), I agree about the background. At the time, it seemed like splicing photos into the background was a great time saver, but it never seemed to work out. Maybe one day, if I get the time and patience to draw photo-realism, it'll be worthwhile, but I've more-or-less dropped the technique these days.

Thanks! I'm still quite proud of the shading. The darkest parts were done with ink-stone and brush, with the rest of the shading in Laurentian coloured pencils. The trick is to move your pencil in the direction that the fabric (or leather, hair, etc.) is being pulled. It makes hundreds of little lines that guide the eye and create the illusion of depth.
This art lesson has been brought to you by my grade 9 art teacher, Mrs. Summerskill.

Mrs. Summerskill is a genius, and thank you. I'll most likely be using it in the future ^_~

Thanks for the compliments!
The trick with coloured pencils is to colour along your subject's contours, whether that's with the grain of wood, or in the direction of the folds in fabric. The human eye is good at picking out tiny lines, and using them to your advantage can really enhance your colouring.
