not only Blockbusters hit it's stride in England, other short-lived US game shows like Catch Phrase & Strike It Rich (1986-1987 version) have also been successful in the UK as well.

and by the way, the full title for the Challenge revival is called All New Blockbusters and it's hosted by Simon Mayo and like the 1980-1982 short-lived Bill Cullen version in the US this featured adult contestants instead of students which was in the previous versions of the programme and speaking of previous versions the original UK version of Blockbusters was hosted by the Late Bob Holness for an amazing 11 year run from 1983-1994 when it was on ITV then Sky One. also not only we had 2 short-lived version of Blockbusters here in the US but the UK also had 2 short-lived version as well, the first one was with Michael Aspel on BBC2 in 1997, then three years later Liza Tarbuck hosted a short-lived one year revival of the programme on Sky One (again) from 2000-2001. in 2007, Vernon Kay hosted a one off series revival of Blockbusters as part of Vernon Kay's Game Show Marathon on ITV1 where six celebrities competed on 8 classic game show formats (originally 7 in the Ant & Dec version) for their charities also whatever prizes that the celebrity participant won on that show's format will go to the home viewer via phone-in competition.

also original host/presenter Bob Holness passed away recently this year due to suffering a major stroke, which was a brain scan revealing that he had previously suffered a number of transient ischaemic attacks over several years. he also suffered from hearing loss, and began to use a hearing aid in 2003, in 2005 he was diagnosed with coeliac disease, and in the last few years of his life he suffered from vascular dementia.

on 6 January 2012/January 6, 2012 his family announced that Bob Holness died in his sleep at 83 years of age. he is survived by his wife Mary, as well as his three children named Carol, Jon, and Ross and his seven grandchildren named Sam, Tom, Arthur,Theo, Rylan,Cassian, and Lily.

on 14 May 2012/May 14, 2012 Challenge TV aired the first episode of the All New Blockbusters with Simon Mayo to pay tribute to the late Bob Holness in his honor.

did I mentioned Michael Aspel before them?

also the Mayo version on Challenge was sadly never renewed for series 2 as it was cancelled in the same year as it debuted in 2012.

For you older viewers or "television nuts"....

The original American version was created by Steve Ryan for Mark Goodson TV Productions for NBC. It ran from Fall 1980 to Spring 1982 and briefly revived for the first five months of 1987.

The UK version (of which there are five) started as a 1981 pilot, then as a regular series in 1983, lasting ten years, produced by Central Independent Television for ITV. Afterwards, Sky1 gave it non-network life for one more season. Then in 1997 BBC TWO presented a version using adult contestants, and then Sky1 did it again in 2000, but neither series reflected the original Central series' "grandeur", if you will. What the UK now knows as BLOCKBUSTER is the "All-New" version started by Challenge (orig Challenge TV) on May 14, 2012 and still runs to this day. Let's hope this new version succeeds where the previous non-Central-produced ones failed....

Is it me, or does it feel wierd when stuff that fails in America does better in the UK?

This is just one of those thing that called "the British is better than us." Most game shows in UK could be better, either it a gameplay, set, music, and/or rating than the US shows.
