hmm...ive been mixing broad and short strokes for awhile now when i draw but when i use a wacom i revert to that "afraid to cross the road" style. Any suggestions cuse i dont have much experience drawing with my full wrist like i see alot of people suggest.

I use a small wacom and still manage to sketch with long strokes. it takes practice but it can be done. If you have to draw with your wrist, just don't bare down on the pencil/stylus too hard. You can hurt your wrist doing that.

How do you get your lines so clean in photoshop? I can draw neat lines traditionally but the moment I try drawing on my tablet it comes out all scribbly and messy. D:

If you're having trouble with your tablet, first I'd make sure you have the driver set up properly. Second, if the lines seems broken, try using a different program like SAI.
Also, drawing a tablet takes time to get used to so just keep practicing. If you're still having problems, let me know.

Thank you so much for replying. I think it will take some time too... maybe years for me. but hopefully one day I can achieve the kind of quality you get in your works. THANKS! <3

Well. You just gotta loosen up so you can spend time on it. It's a journey, a long and perilous one but with patience and confidence building you'll get there. :]

You said it. Loosen up. That's the best advice of all.
Teachers had to break me of being a sketch chicken for a few years. They forced me to use marker brushes, it was horrible but it worked. But the effective one is when I made myself draw while using a pen and riding a bus... If that doesn't break a person of the tightness, i don't know what will.
I think I'm gonna feature this in my next journal.

I victimized myself by grinding my pencil down real hard...I soon realized it was due to stress and that I could express my personal rage better if I loosened up. So yeah, it's important.

Insane help n.n My sketches are always blobs. Most of my ideas are in my head until the last two or three layers... don't get me started on traditional sketching o.e

Should have also added "Dont erase," Or dont erase as much.
Other than that, this is good.

I think I did...
atleast in the second part of the sketching process don't erase. I think once you get to the final phase, especially with a pencil, you can start clearing some of the eroneous lines and smudges.

You don't suck, you're just untrained. Even though you may have troubled an eyeball or something doesn't mean you can't draw somthing better or more advanced than people who have been in the game a long time. Partly because of your individual approach so my advice to YOU is to not give up or despair so easily. If you went through my gallery, look at my scraps and compare them to what I'm doing now. As an example; most of those scraps I was doing in college 3 years ago and now I'm coming up with my own ideas, running with my own designs and honing a technique that has been a journey to achieve.
You can do it!

Hey, sometimes drawings take years. I know someone who spent 6 months on a dual character composition.
As far as me being encouraging...i don't want to be considered as pompous or an ass just because I've gotten better at my work.

Streching before drawing... never thought of that but maybe that's why my sketches are and look and feel 'stiff'. I'll try this approach, since I suck at sketching so much I sometimes feel like givin up from the start >_< Thank you, this is precious ^^

I'll be checking for sure, it's so interesting.
It's just that my sketches sometimes are so messy I look at them and go 'wtf?' LOL but lately I've been practising more and it helped (draw draw draw!! it's a good mantra X°°D)
Thanks for this and wait for more ^^

I...
struggle with sketching x.x
I'm one of the 'afraid to cross the road' people?
Either way, hopefully I can put all of this into practice sometime or another. Thanks :3

Like I said, just use your whole arm; I know this sounds corny but "dance" with it. You've gotta use your body when you draw. I find listening to music also helps.
Just, on paper especially, don't grind into the page because it makes it difficult to see where you're making mistakes. with the loose lines you can find the one line that works and get rid of the others.
Hope it helps!

Myself and another artist are going to be doing the second part gesturing so we'll go over use of photographs then.
