I was really happy in Canterlot Boutique where they mentioned Twilight was the most popular princess in the poll :3 A lot of people probably missed that because it was just a passing line but to me it showed a lot, the public can definitely see how authentic and intelligent she is as a leader ^w^
Why can't Twilight Sparkle be ruler of the planet, she would be way better than our current world leaders XD Human leaders are so fake and calculated, and they're so short-sighted and stupid too XD WE WANT TWILY! XD

I haven't seen that episode in its entirety, but Twiley is probably a popular princess both in-show and with the fans because of her youth, humility and adorkable schoolgirl personality. She studies too much, loves her books, overanalyzes everything, is prone to mental meltdowns, makes a lot of mistakes, and apologizes for every little thing. She is very uncomfortable with her royal title and is not polished, refined and distant like the other princesses. And most of all, she is happy just hanging out with her friends, the CMC's, the other foals around town, and being herself, warts and all. She truly is Everypony's Princess.
As for being ruler of our planet, she's already been here three times via the films, and she's never stayed for good. There'a reason for that.
