This is friggin' adorable. I love these two together. So so much. I hope season 6 has some good Spike episodes. The little guy really deserves them.

Well I like to think of Twilight like a mother to Spike. She hatched him and she was the first thing he saw upon hatching. But interpret their relationship how you want. I like to think that they consider each other "family" and have a bond more than just friends could have. She would go to the end of Equestria to keep him safe and he would do anything to see her happy. Unconditional, wholesome love.
Siblings work. But their dynamic is so much more meaningful if you look at their relationship as a mother and her son. Again interpret it how you want. I just thought I'd offer a different point of view.

Ok that's all cool but I see Twilight as a big sister to Spike. She doesn't seem like an ADULT...she's a TEEN PONY like the others ya know. And you're right that they DO consider each other family but as adoptive siblings to me.

I just... the show made such a point to show her hatching him and show him smiling at her when she did that it'd be a shame for the show not to treat their relationship like a mother and son. Siblings don't hatch the children. The mother does. And the mom is always the first living thing the child sees upon hatching. You see? That's why it's frustrating when the show had Twilight mistreating Spike sometimes such as in the very first episode of season one where she slams a door in his face and doesn't apologize. It's irresponsible from a writing perspective.Β
Let's both agree though that Spike and Twilight are family. ^-^

I DO agree with ya that they're family!Β I never watch the show muchΒ but if that's what Twilight does sometimes then she doesn't consider herself as his adoptive motherΒ but after a while, I guess now she DOES consider herself as his adoptive big sisterΒ That's how they MOSTLY act with each other...like close adoptive siblings if ya noticedΒ Most others here also see them as big sister and little brotherΒ

I see yet another one of DM's amazing images of Twilight and Spike sharing a wonderful little moment, the one thing that I wish we would see in the series, and instead of making me happy it just makes me sad. Why? Because I'm starting to realize that it is never going to happen, and that as Twilight moves on Spike is going to be left behind. She's never going to tell him that she loves him, they're never going to let him be her family, just her assistant. Nothing more.Β
Just as the show now begins to move inexorably towards Twilight and Flash Sentry becoming an official couple, so has your art. Nothing wrong with that, of course. It's your gallery, and your interests should drive what you produce. Still, I think it demonstrates pretty well what the show is going to do... as Flash moves into Twilight's life, Spike will slowly be taken out of it, and a little boy will lose the one mare he has that he counts as anything close to family. It's a show for nine year old girls; it simply won't deal realistically with how this new relationship will affect Spike. He'll just sit there smiling, just like he did for Rarity when Trenderhoof showed up. If we're lucky, the staff will remember to put him in the background in library scenes and have him be the ring bearer at the wedding or something. There's a good reason why the last two episodes of this season before the finale focus on Spike, I thinkβ I believe it's his "last hurrah."
So, DM, thank you for this wonderful image of Twilight and Spike being something more, and for all of the ones that you brought us in the past. They sit in my screen saver, reminding me of what the series could have done with their story arcs. I only wish that I hadn't convinced myself that it could have been.Β
