I can't give a formal critique, I has no subbie, but I'll do my best here.
The details are very good, especially with the scales. And the colors remind me of how they would've been drawn and painted traditionally. The border around him too is very nice and the fact that it's neutral outside that frame really brings attention to him. I like the pattern around the perimeter and the four little symbols around him too, it adds to the exotic feel. Hope this helps!
