I tend to find that most of these optional battle tower bosses are pretty unpopular in terms of fanart. I'd assume that a lot of players just aren't into that type of content, so they never really see the characters, and certainly don't form an attachment to them or anything like that. I never get very far with those modes myself, just cos getting through them requires a lot more thought and effort to build teams that'll actually work well. By the time I've finished the game I'm not really looking to build a whole new team and train them from scratch, haha.


Whatever the reason may be, it is a shame because there's some cool designs that don't get a lot of love. I do like to draw these more obscure characters now and then, though.

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. It really is a shame. As for me, I've always had way too much free time, so I've managed to train approximately at least one full Box or more in almost every Pokémon game I've played after Gen 2, and I've even raised them all to level 100, so I certainly haven't been afraid of challenging the end-game battle facilities. However, I didn't know anything about how to PROPERLY breed and EV train my Pokémon in Gen 3, so I only ever got three Silver Symbols in Emerald's Battle Frontier. So yeah, I haven't encountered all of Emerald's Frontier Brains, which is a pity, because I kinda liked them all in the show. Speaking of which, it's no wonder that the Gen 4 Frontier Brains and the Battle Chatelaines don't get more fan art, since they never appeared in the show! Heck, even some members of the regional Elite Fours have never been seen in the show, and that's just unacceptable.

That's why you're doing Pokémon fans a great service by drawing some of these less popular characters. Maybe you should make a poll about them and ask your followers which obscure character they would like you to draw next. I know I'd happily take part in that.

I think the IV/EV stuff definitely put me off a lot (as well as all the grinding) - it's a very tedious thing to do, particularly those last 20 levels or so. At the same time, I'm one of those that plays through the game without using buffs/debuffs, so building competitively viable pokemon was never exactly my priority.  

Pokemon Sun was the first time I actually dipped my toe in the water and built a good Garchomp up, just to test how easy it was to do it with the new systems they'd put in. Turns out it was pretty easy!
Unfortunately SuMo had very shallow content depth, so I didn't have much motivation to keep going with it. Never even attempted the battle tree thing. In fact, I actually need to go back and play my copy of Ultra Sun - I was just a little put off by it seeming to be SuMo 1.5, so I only played about an hour and stopped. I liked SuMo's focus on story, and stronger characterisation, but a lot of those characters got on my nerves (lookin' at you, Hau) and it was way too linear. It's not bad, but it's not my favourite.

But yeah! Back to the point - there's definitely a lot of characters that get overlooked. Even some of the main trainers that everyone sees don't get a lot of love.
There's definitely a few I'd like to have a go at, so I might put together a poll like that at some point!
