but whats worse is the crazy harry potter fans who go on tumblr and talk about HOW SO MUCH BETTER HARRY POTTER IS when in the basic form harry potter and twilight are alike (in that theyre very SELF-INSERT friendly because its a normal person going into a CRAZY FANTASY WORLD) and they say stuff like "I GREW UP IN THE HARRY POTTER GENERATION YOU GREW UP IN THE TWILIGHT GENERATION" its just like no, no stop it. i know theres lots of twihards who DO really like harry potter too and i think lots of hp fans who hate twililght (NOT ALL OF THEM OBVIOUSLY) dont think that can be possible when tehy dont realize that some of the BASIC appeal of harry potter applies to twilight as well

i think harry potter and twilight are essentially the same "idea" except one is done well and one is done poorly
they are both "normal people enters world of magic" and both borrow from relatively stale old genres (romance and british boy's boarding school adventures) and twilight had basically ALL THE POTENTIAL to be a really deep and interesting little hidden world of vampires and werewolves and have an interesting little love story (whether you acknoweldged the creepy and made it not-romantic or just revamped edward's character) it just .... fell flat due to horrible everything else, and thats the only real difference

harry basically becomes Evry1's Savior because he has to? he has no choice to be ~famous n popular n stuff~ but JK actually does a pretty good job keeping him grounded and average as a person? like he's average at school, kind of lazy, short-tempered (even though this gets annoying as hell i basically remember hes an angry teenage boy and angry teenage boys are ANNOYING)

and yeah, smeyers tries to make bella 'flawed' but its just like XD shes clumsy O.O and pale -_- and let alone is it obnoxious when an author TELLS YOU THE CCHARACTERS FLAWS instead of showing you it but those arent.. really flaws, her flaws are things like SUPER RIDICULOUS DEPENDENCY and stuff like that which isnt viewed as a BAD THING, its fine to be super clingy and not weireded out by a guy watching you sleep XDD

yeah harry can actually be a really ungrateful little snot that abuses his popularity and the trust he has from authority (minus snape) but its all ... INTENTIONAL ON JK'S PART? i just remember a great little moment in GoF when harry gets a bunch of fake leprachaun gold from the quidditch world cup and it disappears in his pockets and he never notices ... and ron is like "...must be nice to not notice when a bunch of money disappears" and its just a PERFECT LITTLE MOMENT that shows how much harry takes for granted maybe because it reminded me of myself and a lot of real life moments where im like XDDD idk how much it costed XDD idk how much money i have cuz its always enough 2 buy what i want XDD and my friends are like "..." and i feel like a dick

i think im actually idealizing them in my memory right now because i havent read them in so long either, so who knows? either way, annoying harry seems a lot more understandable now but im not sure if thats because i have a new sympathy for whiny teenagers when their lives are as complicated as harry's actually is (and therefore being like lol jk is so good), or if its been so long since ive actually read annoying harry that ive forgotten how annoying he is!

YEAH and basically smeyers just made it into a terrible overblown adolescent love fest instead of focusing on the potential it had, and when she DOES go on about the plot, i feel like its added very much in as an afterthought and is only made to be like "yeah this is how bella is special, all the bad guys want to kill her" which i suppose isn't that bad -- bella becomes like the Bestest Vampire To Ever Vampire when she gfinally gets turned into one, whcih is kind of what happens to harry potter?? I DONT KNOW if thats necessarily true since i never finished th ebooks idk if he becomes a God but hes basically like a Big Fucking Deal but she focuses SO GOD DAMN MUCH on fleshing out the romance instead of just developing her characters or making her plot make more sense or actuall being creative ok this is actually interesting to think about bceause now im thinkikng "WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO MAKE TWILIGBHT LESS oF A FUCK UP"
