Personality
Shikakai is the second child of Shikamaru and Momiji Nara and the younger brother of Shikako Nara. Shikakai takes after his father, Shikamaru, in several ways, possessing a similar relaxed, unenthusiastic personality. While people his age usually goes out to play or train, Shikakai would rather lay in the sun and read a book or take a nap. Shikakai also isn't one to properly respect figures of authority, greeting his uncle — the Seventh Hokage — plainly, and he is shown to be very blunt and doesn't sugarcoat anything to those around him, addressing them how he perceives them with no concern about the sensitivity of the topic.

Despite him being lazy and lacking enthusiasm, Shikakai is very calm in every situation and doesn't like to get involved in things he finds "unnecessary." He is usually the most calm person in the room or in the group and believes most people should be calm and live a life of no stress. Most things he find unnecessary are fighting, studying, or homework. He believes that he does a sufficient amount of work at school, and genuinely wonders why should he take it home to his personal life. Shikakai is considered to be a prodigy amongst the Nara clan, having inherited his father's intellect and being a direct descendant of the Uzumaki clan. Like both his parents, Shikakai is a natural strategist and tactician, constantly taking a methodical and analytical approach to battle to stay steps ahead of the opponent. He excels at reading his opponent's tactics and battle patterns to anticipate how they will act, letting him seamlessly device a proper countermeasure.

Shadow Imitation Technique

Kanji: 影真似の術

The Shadow Imitation Technique is a signature technique of the Nara Clan which allows the user to manipulate their shadow. The user extends their shadow on any surface (even water) and as far as they want as long as there is a sufficient area. Once it comes into contact with a target's shadow, the two merge and the target is forced to imitate the user's movements. Therefore, the two can throw shuriken at each other at the same time if the user desires that (of course, to prevent hurting themselves, the user just has to have the shuriken holster in a place where you don't normally have it, like the back, so that the opponent draws nothing when the user draws a shuriken). If the target is out of range, the user can produce a better light source to increase their shadow's size or rely on pre-existing shadows for their shadow to freely travel through. It's also possible to split one's shadow, either to trap more opponents at once, or to create a distraction.

The major downside of the Shadow Imitation however, is that it is tiring to use repeatedly; Hidan notes that the ability is subject to some form of diminishing return and decreases in potency after repeated use (Shikamaru and Shikako Nara can only maintain it for 5 minutes per use). If the user is low on chakra, the performance rate of the technique also deteriorates. Insufficient lighting will make the technique less effective. A particularly strong opponent can also resist the shadow's forced imitation. The technique also forces the user to move the same as the victim so if the victim was hit with enough blunt force to move them, the user has the movements forced on them.

• "Ino", "Shika" and "Chō" are the names of three cards needed for a highly prized trick of "Inoshikachō" in the Hanafuda.
• Shikakai's hobbies are Playing Shōgi and Napping.

• Shikakai's favorite foods are Miso Ramen and Iwashi Shoyuyaki. His least favorite food is Namasu.
