Accoding christianity Lucifer and Satan are the same being. Lucifer was the angel's name while Stan is his name as a demon.

I'm perfectly aware of this, but several sources make them two different beings. For example, Lucifer is seen as the demon of Pride, and Satan (or Amon, it's not always the case) is seen as the demon of Wrath. Also, Lucifer was kinda Yahweh's right hand man before he fell, one of the most powerful Archangels if not THE most powerful. But again, other sources say that Satan was once the leader of the angels called powers, or a member of the cherubim. And in Judaism, Satan is actually testing humanity under the orders of Yahweh, while Lucifer doesn't exist in this religion. So when you learn about all this mythological differences, you tell yourself that a lot of things are possible, so I made this arbitrary choice.

Firstly hank you som much for the reply.

It wasn't my intention to make you feel you commit anΒ arbitrary choice.

I am a Catholic and at least where I live I have been taught that Lucifer is the name of the fallen angel, and that after falling from heaven I took the name of Satan.Β But I have read some sources and the vast majority take Lucifer and Satan as distinct beings.

I suppose is a little confusing to me to believe that God has two enemies. Do you happen to know who is more powerful between Lucifer and Satan?

Oh but I would agree to say that it was kind of a daring position to take, and I'm all right with it, no worries

Yeah, even if I'm no believer, for a long time I only knew about this version of the story too, but after making several researches, I was able to acquire more perspective on the subject. And I understand that it may be even more confusing for someone who grew up as a believer My biggest mindblow was when I learned about the almost forgotten Canaanite pantheon, when Semitic people worshipped several gods, like the Greek, the Norse, the Egyptian...

I should try and actually represent Satan as he exists in Judaism, someday, this could be interesting

In the context of my Hell Quest/Heaven Quest storyline, I would say that in Hell, Satan has more power than Lucifer, and that in Heaven, it's the other way around

Yes, I would like to see a representation of Satan as he exists in Judaism.

The only one we have (to my knowledge) is the one appearing in Shin Megami Tensei games, where he looks like a xenomorph-like abomination XD There is another one in Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse, but even though he acts like he does in Judaism (more or less), his design is based on the seven headed dragon from the Book of Revelations, which is more associated to the Christian Satan

Hmm... If Satan and Lucifer where to fuse, what being would they make?.... Iblis?

(I ask because I see them as two halves of the same being, if not the exact same being.)

I saw Lucifer as the archetype of THE fallen angel who actually hates being in Hell and just wants to get his place in Heaven back, while Satan would be the archetype of the Devil as in medieval times, cunning and challenging God (just for the hell of it lol), and embracing his demon condition I didn't think they would fuse... More like a physical return to their original form : Lucifer as the Light Bearer, the Morning Star, and Satan as the leader of Powers (or as the Judge of humanity, as in Judaism ) at the very end of the game.

I see. My version of the devil is kind of a mix of both. He enjoys being the ruler of Hell, but still longs for his place back in Heaven.

I wonder what's the difference between Satan and Lucifer in your game?

I thaught Lucifer would be more like THE fallen angel who actually hates being trapped in Hell and mostly wants to return to Heaven to get his revenge and recover his place of Light Bearer, while Satan would be closer to the archetype of the Devil, who fully embraced his role as opposer of God and ruler of Hell, unlike Lucifer, who considers Hell like God's trash can. When they were still angels, Lucifer was indeed too proud and wanted to take God's place, while Satan just loved to challenge his authority, with no greater purpose... I know it mays sound like a complete weird reinterpretation, but that is the difference between them
