Description
BASIC INFORMATION
name Pike
rank guard
age 3 years
gender male
PERSONALITY
Much like the foxes depicted in Aesop's fables, Pike is a tricky sort of beast, with a mind quicker than the traps the humans set for his kind. Nothing pleases him more greatly than outsmarting something, whether it be prey or predator . He especially likes arguing and debating and outwitting his companions, even though he very rarely has them - he tends to treat friends the same way he treats everyone else, with a dry sarcasm and an unpleasant amount of arrogance that makes him more or less unpopular. He's a very clever animal, but even when he doesn't have the answer to a problem, he makes something up that sounds accurate and loudly boasts it in a desperate attempt to get others to idolize him. Pike is also exceedingly violent, and prefers very non-peaceful means in fighting back against the humans, his methods including (but not limited to) running dogs off of cliffs and leading men into their own traps. Because of this, he also has a very high tolerance for witnessing violence, and can watch any manner of gore without so much as batting an eye.

HISTORY
Pike was born to a fairly average, small fox family who lived in a burrow next to the lake. He was happy with his brothers and sisters, and would always go play with the other foxes that lived nearby, always remaining wary of the stories he'd heard about the cruelty of man and their thundering horses and barking dogs...or at least he did for a long time, until he got curious. To a young fox cub, the idea of a hunt was nothing but thrilling, and at the first opportunity, Pike ventured out into the village to see one of these men for himself.
He made eye contact with a man for the first time when he was just six months old. Unfortunately for him, the hunters were a lot more used to the sight of him than he was to the sight of them, and it didn't take long for the men to take after him with their guns and dogs. However, even in this dire situation Pike feared very little...he knew he was fast, and he knew that he could easily outsmart these brutes with their slow, clumsy hounds any time he'd choose. Around and around he lead them like a cat playing with prey, making a game of it until he made a very bad mistake; in his arrogance he'd forgotten about the dangers of the forest, and it was soon enough that they had him pinned.
The men grew nearer as the dogs bayed and howled, snapping at his small, delicate frame as he tried to avoid their teeth. In a fit of panic, Pike ran the only way he knew to run...back to the small burrow next to the lake in which he'd grown up. They had lost his trail, but were instead into the den that housed his brothers, sisters, and parents, all sitting blissfully unaware in what would soon be their death trap. Unable to run in time, the massacre ensued, and soon the burrow was reduced to a bloody mound while Pike watched from a safe distance.
After the dogs and men had ended the hunt and Pike ventured out to observe the damages done, the gravity of the situation hit him like a shotgun shell. At first he felt nothing but sorrow for his departed family, all surely gone to be worn as furs as he stood...but then he considered it. If he told his story to anyone, he'd be branded a coward and a traitor, forever ostracized. That was when the mythos was invented: he wasn't Pike, the fox who led death to his home. He was Pike, the fox who had done all he possibly could to save them. Over the several different times the story was told, he became braver and stronger until his hollow reputation was well-known throughout the forest. Eventually he discovered Darkhaven, and it wasn't long before he was made the captain of the queen's guard. He still covets this position as the marker of his new life, with every passing day hoping to forget just one more piece of his dark history until all of it is but a myth.

RP SAMPLE
In the back of his mind, he heard the screams as his family was ripped apart.
Pike's narrow jaws stretched wide in an all-consuming yawn, yellowed-ivory glinting along his gums in the morning sun. He stretched his thin, spider-like limbs out in front of him and arched his back for several moments before once more sinking to the cool earth, rolling onto his side and closing his eyes as the sun began to warm the washes of charcoal and rust in his fur.
In the back of his mind, he heard the screams as his family was ripped apart... but for now, in the back of his mind it would remain, to be revisited at a later date. Some time he would prehaps reflect on what happened that day, but not today.
Today he was much too lazy to consider moral evaluation.
