She is one of the most recognizable anime characters in the entire world. A carefree schoolgirl, she can transform herself into the de facto leader of the series' primary heroines, the Sailor Senshi. No other character appears in all 200 episodes of the anime, and she is present in all 52 acts of the manga as well as all 51 acts of the live-action series.

Fun fact: one of her original voice actress in the US was Tracey Moore, who also voiced Princess Peach in Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, and the Super Mario World cartoon!

In Japan, she is called Usagi. On this side of the pond, we call her Serena, derived from the word Serenity, which means moon. Her outfit is much more decorative compared to her allies, especially when she acquires her Super and Eternal forms. Main characters get all the perks. Her personality is very similar to the personality of her creator Naoko Takeuchi. I don’t find that much of a coincidence. Don’t most writers include a character that resembles or behaves like the author?

Well obviously I had to do a manipulation of the leader! She is easily one of the most popular characters to cosplay, because the results are enormous! Imagine how difficult it was finding the right cosplayers to use for this picture, with SO MANY to choose from. Fortunately, had some great photos of her Sailor Moon cosplay, and she was happy to let me use one. She wasn’t in a fighting stance, but she had a weapon, as she was doing her signature salute. Good enough! I do remember the crescent moon was commonly shown in the series (not to mention it being the symbol for the Moon Kingdom), so I had to put it in the scene, adding the glow in the process. The sunset is a stock photo, with the stars added in manually. It was a pain adding in the stars! I was going to use a nighttime scene, but I found it too bland. So I went for a late sunset scene, which worked out a lot better. You can still see the stars at that time, and the moon glows as well. And rather than just a generic platform for her to stand on, I gave her a castle to stand on!

I’m planning to put all the Inner Senshi all in the same scene. I should have that up in January.
