Description This is my most commented upload here on Deviant Art. Thank you to those who have commented on this upload over time

As a Doctor Who fan, one of the things I am often sick and tired of other fan's debating is this -

Is Paul McGann's 8th Doctor from the 1996 TV Movie 'Doctor Who' really one of the Doctors ?.

The answer quite simply is - YES !!.

The proof is right in front of your eyes if you watch the TV Movie [or this upload in this case ] with the scene where Sylvester McCoy's 7th Doctor passes on, and regenerates into Paul McGann's 8th Doctor, therefore Paul McGann's 8th Doctor DOES count as one of the current Doctors.

For me personally, I would actually rather agree that Paul McGann's Doctor does not count IF the TV Movie did not feature the regeneration between Sylvester and Paul if Sylvester was not there at the start of the film, but since Sylvester was the last of the classic Doctors on TV in 1989 and left holding the key to the Tardis right up to the TV Movie in 1996 in order to hand it over to Paul McGann, then yes, Paul is officially one of the current incarnations of THE Doctor.

And encase you need any reminding, here's the regeneration of Doctor's 7 to 8 from the 1996 TV Movie itself, curtsy of the Doctor Who YouTube channel www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKRa06โ€ฆ

And if the clip don't convince you, then I guess you need your head examined in a Hospital for either concussion or sheer denial of EVERYTHING

END OF DEBATE.

NEW UPLOAD - Doctor Who : Paul McGann's Doctor SERIOUSLY DOES count !! doctorwhoone.deviantart.com#/aโ€ฆ

I just pretend that when Jodie fell out of the tardis she hit the ground and almost died causing regeneration and turned into another doctor that wasnโ€™t Jodie Whittaker.

Seems so, thou for a long time now, I've not seen or heard anyone who says he doesn't count, so they've either A) accepted him, or B) learned to shut up about it.

People seriously debate this?! What a load of morons! Of course the 8th Doctor counts, for me it was him that made the TV movie so enjoyable and it breaks my heart that he's quite an under-rated Doctor.

Out of all the Doctors there's been, he has one of my all time favourite outfits just behind 10 and 12 and it's a cosplay I really want to do at some point.

I know the post is older than the 50th Anniversary, but let's remember with the introduction of John Hurt as the "forgotten" Doctor, we got to see McGann's regeneration into him. Unfortunately McGann got to be the Doctor in a period of time Doctor Who was away from TV, but very active in comics and audios, so he's got a lot of stories going on.

I, for one, thnk the movie was weak, but he was a great Doctor that was just underused. At least we got to see his first and last adventures on screen - both his regenerations. For me, he's always been a real Doctor, more real than John Hurt (while I love the actor's work, I still don't see why the need for him in the canon. Just so Moffat could fix a mess-up with the doctor regeneration numbering thing?)

Besides, McGann actually wanted to be in the Anniversary special and all he's got was a short story. I particularly think if Eccleston refuses to play the Doctor anymore, McGann could fill that space neatly. He could have been there together with the War Doctor, Ten and Eleven.

To be honest, I think people don't like him since he really didn't get more screen time, like the other doctors.

It's not that we don't agree. It's just that we try SO hard to forget that movie ever happened. So hard.

I'm not sure why people hate him. He's just an actor.

But then, I'm finding that people like having someone to hate. There's even someone on here working round the clock to spread goofy rumors about me and my cousin, lol!

Paul McGann actually did some wonderful work as the Doctor for the audio books, nearly 100 of them I believe. He really was a brilliant doctor and well developed over eight or nine, if you ever have the chance to listen to some of those adventures

lightninglana [2015-05-19 14:48:28 +0000 UTC]

Okay I'm seriously worried some people didn't count him now. As soon as I became a fan of the show it was ingrained as fact that he was the Eighth Doctor and that was it. I had no idea it was up for debate. I really like him as well, and Night of the Doctor certainly helped in that cause. Pretty sure my favourite kine in Doctor Who is "I'm a Doctor, but probably not the one you were expecting".ย

Yeah, to deny the 8th Doctor's existence is meaningless.

'Sides, there's all those brief pictures of him in the new series, like in... Human Nature/Family of Blood, the Next Doctor, The Eleventh Hour, Nightmare in Silver, the Name of the Doctor, and the Day of the Doctor! And the minsode!

...who said he didn't count, again?

DoctorWhoOne In reply to Winters-Dawn1221 [2015-05-11 05:58:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, total denial of 8th's existence in Doctor Who is completely impossible now.

Ah, well, I did some crazy math the other week and discovered how much it'd (roughly) be to download the entire Eighth Doctor audio collection off of Big Finish. $32.89 for the first eleven in the Monthly Releases and $246.81 for the following 19. $305.66 for the four Eighth Doctor series that followed, and a square $140.00 for the Dark Eyes collection. The special 'An Earthly Child' is $7.99 and then 'Living Legend' is free to download. Then there's 'The Four Doctors' which is only through subscription, but it'll likely be made available to the public soon. Well, maybe not, be one could always buy a 12 CD subscription and select that one as their free gift. Then there's the audio version of Shada, which is $7.56. Then there's the standard edition of 'The Light at the End' which is $12.99. With those added to the original $725.36, its about $753.09 for all of them.

Mind you, I just copied this from a text to my brother and I was bored that day.

Even if I loved the Day of the Doctor I always wondered if War Doctor was really necessary in the plot. Christopher Eccleston didn't wanted to participate in the special so Steven Moffat rewrote the scrip in order to create the War Doctor but why he didn't just make the eighth doctor the doctor who ended the time war? If Paul McGann participated in the Night of the Doctor then he could participate in the special episode too instead of the War Doctor because... we need to accept he is the most underdeveloped doctor of all the series.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

DoctorWhoOne In reply to Shinsen-san [2015-04-28 13:57:16 +0000 UTC]

As Moffat himself put it - "I couldn't see the 8th Doctor being the one to press that button in end the Time War".

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Shinsen-san In reply to DoctorWhoOne [2015-04-29 04:50:27 +0000 UTC]

Really I don't know why... I mean, Grandfather Paradox, a possible corrupted future version of the 8th doctor, was similar to the War Doctor where he destroys Gallifrey. Besides, as I said before, the Eighth Doctor was the most underdeveloped Doctor of all the Doctor's incarnations so a big role as the Doctor who finished the War could have been the best ending for him.

For me the perfect 50th anniversary episode could have been 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors together *o*

This Doctor has a true place in my heart, because out of all 13, McGann is the one who actually witnessed the Time War and chose to be a warrior after seeing the corpse of Cass, is it? I was speechless when I saw the transformation to Hurt.ย
