THANKS MAAAANNNNNN
Wait, what?! Hey now, I've been seeing you posting stuff for a while now...|P
Hahaha, well I've certainly gained very valuable background skills from Layout Design class, but as for the rest, the program mostly just taught me to be more patient with my work and intentionally focus on every aspect of it.
Yes, I think something really subtle could work there. I haven't studied water enough to know if rapids reflect light the same way as still water though.
Thank you so muuuuuuuch Laura uvu

ARE YOU PROUD OF THIS? BECAUSE YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF THIS.
Wow, this is incredible. Dody herself is probably the best part of the piece, but everything looks fantastic. That water, man. That water. There's so much motion in this, and the environment feels so real and alive. The style has a nice 3D quality to it while still seeming cartoonish and fun (I mean look at those logs. Those are nice logs.). And the concept itself of building a raft out of badniks is so creative and outside of the box!
This is really too super cool. Totally amazing work~

ASJKDFGHKFG YES. I AM, AND YOU'RE ALWAYS HELPING ME STAY PROUD AFTER SEVERAL DAYS, WHICH IS VERY RARE FOR ME
Thank you sooooo much! ;-; I'm really glad I was able to strike that balance between 2D and 3D! And that you like my concept, ehehe. Really appreciate your comment!! (as usual :">)

x3 You did an amazing job on the water, that came out amazingly well and pretty much looks legit. Β I don't see many works these days where the water legitimately looks like it should, especially with fast paced water. Β I also am really excited about the pose, you chose a good perspective and has a smooth line of action. Β The textures and patterns looks really good and you kept a good eye on the lighting. Β Overall its a great piece and shows a lot of progression with your work. Β The only thing I can think of really (and honestly its just personal opinion) is maybe use a bit of a scattered brush texture on your trees/bushes on top of the water fall. Β I think they are still close enough that there would be "individual" leaves so instead of just making green clumps if there were a few scattered pieces around the edges it would give more of an impression that those are foilage. Β Honestly though this looks great, amazing shading on your Mashers, they are nice and shiny and chompy x3 haha
Great job, you really have come a long way.

Eeee, thank you so much Shanella! That's a really flattering comment, haha. I think the rapids could still use some refining, but I'm glad you (and so many others) think it looks convincing. The pose was sort of winged, but again I'm glad it works well! :> And yes, you're absolutely right about the trees--I was struggling to decide whether or not I should simply add more detail or to make them seem more far away by mixing some atmospheric blue over them (which I did in the end). Of course, doing both probably would have been best.
That really means a lot! Thanks again for your in-depth comment ;_;

Thanks Keith! Glad so many people like it. I think I'm growing to like it more myself, which is strange because with my art it's usually the opposite direction.
Happy to see you're still posting stuff too!

Yeah, I think this is my best colouring too! If only my future GHG comics could have panels individually as nice as this.
Thank you soooo much! It's flattering when you point out the things I pay attention to, so it means it's paid off! (I don't mean it in an egotistical way--after all, I know I still can improve my painting tenfold)
You know...that is actually brilliant. Considering it would be "cartoon violence", let's say Dody wouldn't have a problem with it, hahaha! (after all, some unlucky suckers are going to have to deal with them anyway...right?) Mind if I edit my description to add that idea in? I'll credit you for it 8P

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the winner of the 2nd annual Green Hill Games!
Amazing job! I love the lineless.
Do you think you can point me towards the tutorials you've looked at? I have yet to find a good lineless tutorial. I just can't figure the process out! D:

Dody-Inferno In reply to LizEsPencil [2013-08-05 02:36:38 +0000 UTC]
abububuhhhhh I am almost literally melting ahaha what a compliment but nah man, there's a lot of strong competition out there!!
Thanks so much! I didn't actually use any tutorials for this quasi-lineless look. I'll actually just write down the steps that I WOULD take if I wanted to make a real lineless character:
1) Draw lineart as usual, in black or whatever colour you use
2) In a layer underneath, fill in all base colours very thoroughly
3) Lock your lineart layer's transparent pixels (The checkerboard square in Photoshop, or "Preserve Opacity" in SAI.)Β
4) Eyedrop your base colours, then on your lineart layer, draw over it with the chosen colour, where it applies. (for example, if you have a character with a red shirt, you would only make the lineart red around the shirt.)
5) Continue for all your colours.
6) Make a copy of your now-colourful lineart layer, hide it. This is useful if by chance you need to retrieve the lineart later.
7) Merge the lineart with your base colour layer.
8) Bam! Lineless. You can now shade your character to your heart's content.
If you're curious, for this drawing, I waited until I was done shading to change the lineart colour. The effect works for this drawing, since Dody didn't stand out as much when she looked truly lineless. But yeah, if you want a real lineless look, you have to merge your lineart with your base colour, otherwise matching the lineart to your shading will be a nightmare.
