Description Muffy poised on the staircase, ready to fly.

This cat's attention would be drawn to anything and would remain immobile almost forever. Here is another picture of him. [link] I don't dislike the diagonally upwards-spiralling composition (cut mid-way by the cat's body), the textures, the quasi-monochromatic palette and the detail (reflections) around the face.

I love the coiled motion, almost spring loaded state aparent in the stance of the cat. A very typical feline pose, but masterfully captured. I also like the upward spiral, but do think it would be better if the intersection of the cat and the spiral was minimized

Voted for in OWP - furtive

Thanks for your kind comments though I might not have understood everything about the intersection.
I didn't want to crop off much of the spiral (if this is what you meant) because it is paramount to give overall balance. Then the focus is then drawn away to the brightly lit face. Mind you, you only get to shoot something like this once, if and if you have good lighting and an available camera that is!

I agree, it is very hard to make a capture such as this one, animals often only give you once chance to snap it.

What I was saying was that the intersection of the two main elements (cat and rail) were almost distracting, but I think it is also one of the major compositional elements of the photograph, and I dont think that should be changed. I think the major focus of the picture is in the crouched, tense stance of the cat, and that is an amazing capture. Especially from the perspective of below the cat. I think that is what may set this one apart from other cat pictures, most of them are from above, but yours shows the underside. Props.

Ta! I got your point after I thought about what you wrote some time after.
I'm glad you like the piece. Even though all my pictures (recently at least) feature cats I do try to exploit different angles and shots (mostly low angle close-ups).

Ah, another appreciative person of the great Mies van der Rohe. Are you an architect perhaps? Or do you just know him from general art studies?

I am pretty much convinced that his work on the Barcelona Pavilion of 1929 is one of the greatest works of art in modern history.

what does the title mean?

Icarus: (Greek mythology)
Son of Daedalus, architect of the Minotaur's labyrinth and imprisoned there by the Minos king of Crete and the latter's father (sort of). Daedalus fashioned wings out of bird feathers and bound together with wax to help them both fly away and escape for the labyrinth. When Icarus flew too high, the sun melted the wax and he plunged in to the sea and drowned.

Now I presume you'll ask what is Minotaur?

you read my mind. well. i like greek mythology. you know the stories, the characters, the relations between 'em. its wonderful and complicated as well. ANd,.. its hard to remember many 'weird' names there. Minotaur, i assume, it's somethin like an ox?
i dont know,.. but surely i've heard dat name before. on a game, i guess. final fantasy. and as far as i remember, it's appreared as a twin ox.

Forget Final Fantasy or some other videogame that borrows and rips off mythological characters and read the real thing!
Yes, Minotaur was half human half bull. When king Minos failed to offer his most beautiful animal to Poseidon, his wife gave birth to this monster that fed on human flesh. So he had the labyrinth built and the son imprisoned there. Funny thing is that son and wife had to suffer for one man's greed not himself!

wait wait,.. did you mention pseudon? i'm surely have heard dat name before... i just forget.

well.. actally, is there any 'fun' way to learn bout the complex story of geek mith besided from game and movie? even if i read the book, i dont think i'll really understand..

because all those names, all those characters, all of 'em are so unique. and hard to be remember of course.
