He definitely is sweet, although hes young and full of trouble!! But I love him

He is a Morgan

Awww. How sweet. My good friend who introduced me to riding owns a Trakehner Warmblood. The only horse I've really ridden for dressage was a little Friesian horse. :]

very cool!! I have never heard of a "little" friesian... haha

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2007-12-13 04:10:03 +0000 UTC]

You would sure think so. Shes tiny too. Shes literally the size of a pony, but shes so pretty. She was cheap because of the fact that she's so darn small.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2007-12-13 04:18:39 +0000 UTC]

you sure she wasn't like a fell pony?? they are like perfect little pony versions of friesians...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2007-12-14 16:12:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I'm pretty sure she's friesian. Shes not small enough to be a pony.. and I don't think she could be a pony cause we don't tend to use ponies for dressage. She's just a midget I think. :]

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2007-12-15 06:40:16 +0000 UTC]

haha true, I have yet to see a dressage pony.... well. she sounds cute, anyway!!

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2007-12-16 18:09:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. :] I asked about her, they said she is deff a not a fell pony. Shes had stunted growth or something. She is very cute though. ^^

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2007-12-22 06:06:41 +0000 UTC]

haha i dunno, my horse sure has a nice lil western jog going on... sitting its purdy nice plus my saddle aint built like them english flaps o leather. its beefy haha

my weekly challenge is posting bareback. ouch man, im sore the next day.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2007-12-23 06:10:02 +0000 UTC]

Posting bareback is like.. trying to half pass a green thoroughbred. Its like.. not worth the effort.. srsly.

Well Dressage saddles arn't built for comfort by any stretch of the imagination.
I prefer prettyful round necks.

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2007-12-23 20:01:06 +0000 UTC]

haha I know it, people laugh at me when i do it. but i tell you what, i have one toned butt!

i really hate english, its pretty to watch, and of course more power to the people who enjoy it, but it just doesnt work for me.

i have a friend who is very much into dressage. she has like dressage magazines and says its the only way she rides, yet although she rides in a dressage saddle, she uses a western bridle on a reining horse she is leasing... it makes me crazy. but hey... whatever floats her boat.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2007-12-24 05:05:37 +0000 UTC]

THAT makes no sense.
You can't use a western bridle.. and say only dressage.. OK NO.

Haha, well Dressage is very pretty, but its not just looks, its probably the most difficult and tedious form of riding, which is why a lot of people have trouble with it. It depends on what you want, if you want fun and games, dressage is probably not for you. ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2007-12-24 05:27:40 +0000 UTC]

whatever floats her boat, i suppose...

I like my nice relaxing western pleasure stuff. It can be pretty challenging in itself, trying to set a slow place on my arab, haha... but yeah. other than that i really love to barrel race for fun, and a lil reining is great too. ive been practing bridless reining, its really fun

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2007-12-24 19:15:16 +0000 UTC]

Haha, see I know what you mean. See my friend rides Dressage only but when she goes out to Montana every summer to see her family, they ride western saddle and basically bound their way through the fields. Hahaha.

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2007-12-25 02:09:00 +0000 UTC]

A little diversity never hurt... I have a greenbroke Morgan who some of my friends are just dying to turn into a dressage horse, and I won't deny it, he's balanced enough and hes a great mover, obviously a nice trot on him, haha, but I just won't do it. He will be my wetsern horse, although i think he really has a lot of potential, and I might send him somehwere to be trained for dressage, although I don't see the point in it, I still won't ride him anything besides western haha

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2007-12-26 01:59:08 +0000 UTC]

It depends on what you want to do. If you get a good price on him for dressage and your willing to give up his western-ness (hah) you should do it. I suppose it depends on the situation too. If he is turned into a dressage horse, theres no going back. You won't be able to ride him in any way western, or the entirety of the dressage training will go down the hole.

:]

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2007-12-26 04:24:54 +0000 UTC]

meh, I wouldnt be looking for any high quality dressage horse. I just really don't know yet, he's got such a great mind. For now, though, he knows stop turn and go, and I'm working o the Western basics I don't know though, I am not sure I will even be able to afford 2 horses, so I might sell him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2007-12-26 20:47:04 +0000 UTC]

Aww, if you do decide to sell him, make sure you find a good place for him to go. Don't let your horse go off to some rathouse. D:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2008-01-02 02:03:11 +0000 UTC]

Yes, and not only that, but I need him to go somewhere that he can fulfill his potential, because I know he has a lot of it. We shall see, I will do everything I can to avoid selling him. I often think about leasing, but I just know that all my training will go down the crapper. Meh...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2008-01-05 20:45:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know what you mean. If you absolutely don't want to sell him you don't have to, its a difficult spot that your in though. Maybe you could get a friend to lease, which may save your training? :]

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2008-01-06 02:12:48 +0000 UTC]

i've been considering. I have plenty of friends in need of temporary horses, it seems obvious, but they are all either inexperienced, un-confident, or very tough riders (and he doesnt take much to get going, think it and hell do it haha, which I would like to keep!!), and the few3 that I think could maybe do well enough, can't afford to lease. I'll figure it out. Its funny, we have been talking about how i am such a strictly western rider, and as of yesterday, I took up saddleseat on maverick. Its interesting... although I am very sore. I have been at it nonstop, because I will be competing in a month, and I don't want to look like I just started out, ya know? so yeah, and of course all the muscles I will be using for saddle seat are out of shape. *sigh*

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2008-01-07 06:31:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, if you like the way your horse is, then keep him. Sure he may not be at his full potential, but if you like him with you doing what you want him to do thats your choice. :]
Ouch. I know how it feels. D:
Competition is so fun, I love going to shows.

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2008-01-08 06:08:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.... I am just so stuck. that's the optimum way to go, but an expensive one, too. Ill have it figured out eventually... Yeah, I love to compete, I just hope I won't do too bad in the competition!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2008-01-14 06:33:22 +0000 UTC]

I get too nervous to compete really.. maybe after I graduate I'll give it a shot.. as for now.. Eh. D:

Plus not having my own horse doesn't really help.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2008-01-15 01:01:21 +0000 UTC]

I was really nervous at first, but after a show or too all of that went away. Now it is just fun

Yeah, it's a little hard when you don't have a horse for yourself thats too bad

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2008-01-16 17:12:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I don't have a lot of time for my own horse, or the money. I have enough to worry about with school and stuffs.

Yea, I'm sure it would get better if I ever went to a show. :]

Dogs-of-Oregon In reply to blackcrystal22 [2008-01-17 06:02:17 +0000 UTC]

boy I tell you, having two horses right now on top of school is extremely hard. sometimes i would not envy myself....

blackcrystal22 In reply to Dogs-of-Oregon [2008-03-10 13:03:35 +0000 UTC]

Ahaha, I'm slightly lucky that I have the ability to ride so easily without having to pay for a horse with such a good friend who has a horse. :]
