I think this might be a roughly even fight until Galactus realizes that he is fighting a sentai team. At which point he realizes that he should get the hell out of there before they use a plot device to kill him (Don't you know that Voltron's sword is an Ultimate Nullifier?).

Maybe not...Galactus is all that, but Voltron's origins are unknown, and his powers are unlimited. If you watch Golion, you find out Golion(Voltron) attempted to face God himself, and was punished for his defiance.
He was going to attack.God.Himself.
A battle with Galactus isn't unreasonable.

Atually, they DID end up gicing him a backstory - but, like you said, a Super Robot's REAL power comes from the heart of its operators...Hell, the guys that made Voltron LITERALLY prayed to the Gods to give Voltron life! Galactus ain't got SHIT on that!!

It'll still be an awesome battle. I think Voltron will drive Galactus off, but also convince Galactus to spare Planet Doom, as well!
as for how Voltron might defeat galactus, it'd probably be with an unknown ability from deep within, combined with his blazing sword, and the team probably won't have that much to do with it!

Well, i think the team would even try to save Planet Doo. Not for King Zarkon and his wicked fellows, but for the sake of all the slaves and hostages being held there.

The one from the 80s.I've also seen GoLIon, which fills in the gaps. I must admit, they really didn't all that much editing, and there are scenes in the original series that are easily as stupid as the cuts in Voltron.
I thought Sincline was easily the worst villain I'd ever seen seen for sheer brutality, and no redeeming features.It's just lucky it was his own side that suffered his excesses...

There are some Super Robots that possesss tremendous powers...Ideon can shatter planets, for one! A more recent example is Gurren Lagann, who kept battling foes of ever increasing power, till the Universe shook!
GodMazinger was the vessel through which prehistoric Earth was shattered. If a robot's power derives from the will of its operator, they have potentially terrifying powers...
I don't know if they can destroy Galactus, but i think they could drive him off, and save their world, and that's all you need do.
