Description So... I've been busy...

Some of you may remember my image "Something in the Trees... "
Some time ago I was made aware that the link to the tutorial I used for the "Predator" effect didn't work anymore. There are other tutorials out there, but none nearly as good as the one I had used, and after a ton of futile searching I decided to do my own. It was an interesting process, reverse-engineering from my original .psd file and I actually think it went pretty well.

Many thanks to ~KittyFelone for checking the link and asking how it was done. Otherwise I'd never have done this

As this is my first-ever tutorial, I'd love some feedback, and please, hit download for full size...
Thanks guys,
-M.

I decided to get Photoshop, and so I have been doing this a great deal. Through my experience with GIMP, there is a function called Illusion which makes something look a lot like the predator camouflage, however its not as clear as Photoshop. I've also used the selection contraction and used the pinch option in the filter effects in Photoshop to get a cool effect.

Thanks for the info on the info on those stroke lines, I can make some really cool effects. Very nice tutorial here, I might add another option for this one day.

It would also be cool to know how to get those blue lines. I've been thinking and thinking and visualizing but I can't seem to come up with anything in particular. Remember I am using GIMP not Photoshop so its a little different.

...the blue lines were done with the stroke function as well. Use three or four separate layers, blurring the bottom layer a lot (I used Gaussian blur) then a little less with each successive layer, with the top layer blurred very little. Not sure how that will work in GIMP...

Thanks a lot this is very good, but for me I have to use GIMP and its not working so well when I try to use the transform tool. I have to redo the border, duplicate the background and keep on distorting and its not near as smooth. I also have to use the paintbursh emulation in the stroking because I don't have an option to manipulate the opacity of the line.

Hello,and thank you
Never used GIMP, so I have no idea how to make this work with it but I'll try to help. Basically all you're doing is making a girl-shaped copy of part of the background, pasting it on top of the original background, then shrinking it down a bunch of times. Any method of resizing should work as long as it's just done to one layer at a time and each one's a little smaller than the one before.
As for the stroking, opacity is not really all that important, nor is the width of the line, as long as they're a few pixels apart.
Not sure if this helps...
