I think it is from the old colony of New Spain and many other modern claims in Belize and Guatemala

Non oso immaginare il Messico con la California, il divario Nord-Sud in Italia a confronto sarebbe una barzellettaβ¦

Ireland!
NI, the Scottish Islands, Dal Riada and the Isle of Man, the Scottish Highlands and Anglesey, all of Scotland and the western coast of Wales, followed by all of Wales, Liverpool and Cumbria, and finally Cornwall and half of England from the Severn to the Humber!

You can also add other layers including the rest of territories being part of Viceroyalty of New Spain in 1821, when Mexico got independence: Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic (Captaincy General of Santo Domingo in those times) and Philippines. In fact, Mexico tried to conquer Cuba in 1828.

Also lowkey missing: the northern half of Belize, with the Sibun River as the southern boundary. Mexico only stopped claiming that area in 1893, so it should be independent of the to-be-added "Layer 7: Central American republics", under which it would include southern Belize.
Here's a map of Belize with the Sibun River shown:Β www.guidetobelize.info/images/β¦

By the way, Mexico only claimed part of northern Belize from 1882 to 1893. All due the unsolved Guatemalan claim on the are and the negotatition of the current Guatemala-Mexico border

PetΓ©n (Guatemala) is also claimed to be part of Mexico, while the rest of Central America was also part of Mexico and some still see those nations as part of it. (Not Panama).
