My entry for Valiant Force Hero Design Contest
Divine Avenger - Asteriel
Backstory:
Being born with unnatural talent for a very strong holy magic, she was rumored to be a form of a reincarnated angel. By the age of 10 her village was burned and she was forcefully taken by a mysterious organization of sages.
She was then being cruelly experimented to have her power manipulated to be used as a means of weapon to oppose the gods.
But the sages eventually cannot control her, resulting in her breaking out and destroying everything in the facility.
She then sought to avenge anyone involved behind the experiment and the destruction of her village, even to the gods that's given her the power that had only brought misery to her life.
But the result of the experiment was a success, she obtained the purest form of holy magic, so powerful it can hurt even angels. Thus she's nicknamed the divine avenger.

It's been a long time since I participated in a character/hero design contest like this!! It's really exciting!
I've never had any luck for winning a contest, but this time I try to participate again because I really like designing a JPRG-ish character
especially the magician typeIt's strangely quite rare to have a contest similar to this being held, so I won't miss the chance to participate in this one.

I didn't win the contest, the competitors are pretty tough!! But it was really fun! The five winners are surely amazing masterpieces! Congratulation to them!
Even though I didn't win, my artwork was listed onto the top 12 entries with the most votes!! It's all thanks to your support!! I'm forever grateful!

Now that you mention that the design is similar to that of an RO Priestess... I have to admit that RO has a big influence on my childhood.
I actually intended to make it more like a "priestess version of Lenneth Valkyrie" (if you're familiar with the game XD)
Even though the reference I used has no RO Priestess in it, I think I can't totally get rid of the RO priestess influence from my brain completely. Hence the result of the design, hahaha.

NP. As I said I like the design. But since I read that you're submitting it on a contest I just thought mentioning about it because some of the judge may see the similarity that may or may not hurt you're over all score or judgement for that matter. I don't draw like you but I do have an eye on this kinds of things and I do have experience in being a judge for contests although not big and just a few. Mostly for local art contests though and voluntary work but believe me when I say this guys, although most are disabled has works that could be called a masterpiece and judging from them is pretty damn difficult even for professionals.
But in things like this most would go for an original look to sway the other judge's vote. Granted if someone like you with this great talent is joining then there would probably others of your same caliber as well. If for some reason they also have the same style as you have then the judging would come down to two important things: Originality of the design and Background. Out of the 2 most contest favors the first one I mention which is originality.
Anyway I really like your art though

Aaaah I see, I think you're right about it, for example if there were several masterpieces to be compared, the judging would come down to valuation other than the quality of technical skill.
So at that point, idea becoming more valuable than the skill itself.

This is an amazingly constructed piece of art. Each aspect I see is wonderful in a spectacular way. Even the background story is worthy of what I shall grade this piece.
The divine avengers attire suits that of a mage, but also, in a way, has many elements related to those of priestesses and shrine maidens in fantasy games and many animes. The fabric that hangs down from the underside of her bust is much like that of a priestess's robe, the fabric that usually holds their religious symbol. The amulet or brooch around her neck also declares her divinity, but also what she is capable of doing, as rubies were given to priest to conduct blessing for victory in war in some cultures.
The staff is well done, and I love how the two rings revolve around the cerulean crystal.
The book, or tome if you wish, is what caught my attention. I love the desin on the cover, and the golden feathers being conjured from it.
The use of colors is magnificent. The golds and reds mix will with the blue and purple hues of the dress. and the platinum blond hair and green eyes, while they stand contrast to one another, blend completely with the vision of the piece.

You are very welcomed. I love the entire piece. It was worth writing about. In fact, In the future I may ask you to design a character for me for a CCG I'm working on. But that can wait until I finish the rules and such for it. Still got a long way to go.
But I loved your Divine Avenger. It is a wonderful character with a wonderful background.
