Description For those of you fortunate enough to have read 'Jonathan Stange & Mr. Norrell' by Susanna Clarke. If you have not read this huge 800 page book, I suggest you do so as soon as you can. It's amazing.

Now, the question is, is this Childermass, Vinculus, or The Raven King himself...

Gotta be a young John Uskglass. Awesome portrait, beautifully done. Model is quite handsome too.

Was that raven really flying overhead just as you took the photo? That would be such a cool coincidence. Perhaps I shouldn't ask so as not to spoil the magic...

JS&MN is made of win. Love that book.

So perfect--this is exactly the mood of the book.

I'm rereading the book to try and figure out Childremass a bit more.

I'd like to put this image on my blog as an example of fine-art-photography/cosplay. It's just a small writer's friends LiveJournal. Is that okay with you?

Thanks for sharing this! There's not nearly enough Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell art out there, and I'm glad to see someone doing their part to remedy that.

Oh, my God, that's among my favorite books!
(I'm actually loosely modelling a character in one of my own novels after The Raven King, if you have any doubts.)

This is an awesome shot!

I'd like to say he's Childermass (my favorite character from the book),but I think he's too young (not too good-looking,though) for being Childermass. So,he's the Raven King.

I love that book.
And the model has such a lovely haughty expression, really sets the tone.

No bloody gash - not Childermass.

He's well-groomed and -dressed - not Vinculus.

And, personally, I pictured theRaven King having short hair when he finally appeared, despite his previous descriptions. Probably because he could be Strange in three-hundred years or so, which is not surprising as, according to Vinculus, Strange is just a spell of the Raven Kings'.

So, I'm gonna go with all three, though the field looks nothing like the description. Regardless, very nice in composition and, of course, in homage to Clarke's masterpiece.

In my opinion it's the Raven King, beacouse Vinculus was an old vino covered with tatoos while Childermass wasn't handsome

And the raven, it's surely the King himself

and I really like this photo.

such an amazing photo! It really has the feel of Strange and Norrell. This couldn't be anything other than black-and-white.

When I saw that the grass was trampled, I thought, "So that's who's been making the crop circles all long!" Too bad his identity is in dispute, otherwise there'd be one less mystery of the ages. ^^

Toss-up between Uskglass and Childermass, leaning more to Childermass though.

Whatever it is, it's just great. I envy the fact that ravens are cooperating with you..... unless of course it's photoshopped in. Even so, it's veddy nice.

He's to clean to be Vinculus! And possibly to serious to be Childermass...

On a more serious note, this is a great photo! The lighting and contrast are superb. I particularly like the nature of the field; it's very thick and seems as though it were once domestic.

I *so* thought it was going to be Childermass...

He's lovely all by his-contrary-self, though. I love his conversations with Strange and Norrell.

I cannot believe that you haven't received more comments on this image.

This is an incredibly emotive portrait. The tones and contrast of this image are spectacular. The bird flying is, of course, the detail in this image that truly makes it great.

Very very nice...
