Very nice! The anatomy of the head looks accurate, the light bounces around the horns in an interesting and believable way, and the blur on the left horn adds a lot of dimension!

The only real issue I have with this is that the rendering looks unfinished. Some of the brush strokes on the fur and horns are too obviously layered and digital-looking, so it takes us out of the illusion that this is an actual ram in front of us. My advice would be to render the fur in small clumps and make your brush progressively smaller and darker for painting the ridges in the horns. Some hi-res photo reference of ram heads would help a lot here.

Other than that, this piece is off to a great start; I just think it would benefit from more patience and attention to detail. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/n/nā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="334" title="Nod"/>

Thank you for the criticism, I'm still practicing on rendering stuff since I started as a doodler. But I'm getting used to Photoshop and it's brushes.

No prob! For sure, Photoshop can be hard to get used to at first, but you can always customize your own brushes (or be lazy like me and download free ones others have made. Kyle Webster's a definite fave for that.)

This looks really nice! I really love the warm and cool colors, they compliment each other so nicely. The horns look stunning. I myself did a fantasy piece involving ram horns and I really struggled getting the forms to look right.

I love the violets on top and how the horns are also lit with warm reflected light in the shadow regions. The fur texture looks fantastic!
I would say though, that it does look a bit unrefined. I understand you weren't going full photorealism however the eye region looks unfinished compared to the rest of the piece. Eyes are generally focal points and even if they're not we still gravitate towards them since they are the most expressive part of the face. It just needs to be cleaned up a bit, add a few extra details like fur and maybe some shine on the inner eye to show wetness. Just needs a bit more 'life' put into it. The curve of the closest ram horn perfectly guides the viewers gaze to the rams eye so some more detail there would go a long way. Other than that this looks really great!

Thanks for critiquing me, nice art by the way, I'm still improving on drawing realism. But with critiques like yours I'll know where to improve. Thank you.

While it can be argued that this is not necessarily an interesting subject, it is nonetheless painted extremely well. The colour scheme is excellent and highly realistic in it approach with the two light sources adding a distinct style. The brush strokes used for the fur effect is exceptionally well done and the changes in fur colour combined with the shading are faultless.

The simple background complements the picture rather than distracts from it to keep the focus on the animal subject. I think this works better than having a detailed background. The simplicity works for this type of painting.

One area that I think could do with some more work is the horns. While they are excellently painted and the lighting is spot on, they do appear a little too smooth in texture. Iā€™m not sure how this can be improved but maybe using rougher brushes might help.

However, I can easily say this is a high level 4 piece and maybe even a level 5 for the most part. The picture is not overly interesting but still created to a very high standard and should be seen as a credit to the artist.

Thank you for the feedback! I am still improving on drawing with photoshop and realism since I started as a cartoon artist.

I have never seen this level of realism for a 2D drawing. Just amazing!
