Other two days were spent to prepare the material for the camp. All must be
accurately stored avoiding wasting also the littlest space on the copter. All must
be calculated for surviving almost two weeks completely aparted from every
contact with the world. The radio and satellite cells were our last hope
contacting Carlos and a rescue team...Lara was encharged of ailments and
medical furnitures, I was more centered on logistics and the camp
construction,while prof. Wilson seemed much oriented to prepare the robot
mechanic excavator to which were assigned all our hopes to bring out from
the ground some archeological and interesting finds. When all was stored on
the copter we had a reunion in front of the map with Carlos that showed us
the position of Mr. Hansen excavations and tried to read the old map inside
the book of Mr. Wilson...Apparently it seemed to point a place N/W it
about 7 miles. Mr. Wilson asked to Carlos if he knew there was water or
a little river by chance there...Carlos sayd that was impossible to know
the morphology of that places completely eaten by the jungle...Swamps also
of big dimensions are possible everywhere but expecially in the next coming
season of rains. He also noticed that the zone began to be dangerously near
to the paths of drug couriers so recomended to be much carefull with
possible bad encounters. Very early the next morning we flied toward our
destination...Under us a thick jungle didn't allow us to see the ground. When
we arrived on Hansen excavation places Carlos pointed the arm calling
our attenction indicating below. From above it seemed a little white hole
in the middle of green nothing..."He Mr. Doriano the adventure is going to begin"
said satisfied Mr. Wilson...I didn't know if to share this enthusiasm or begin
preoccupating seriously...For now I was too fascinated from the infinity of
the landscape to think to what may come in the next....I imagined something
less, but it took about an hour of fly to arrive there....Carlos first turned three
times around when he saw a kind of little hill apparently not fully eaten by
vegetation. "There Carlos" pointed Mr. Wilson " Low down a little in order to
see if there is enough place to land....Carlos replied in spanish " Non tien
como senor, as plantas son mucho aperto...But improvvisely the destiny
seemed helping us....Beyond the hill a strange and loud noise called our
atenction...incredible...was a water running noise....The copter planned lower
than it could...just to see a sort of waterfall coming out from the hidden side
of the hill...It seemed more a source of water than a waterfall but it gave
us a great euphoria, also if at the moment no place seemed give us the
possibility to land. Carlos said also that we had no more than half an hour
before the fuel should suggest was better to come back....A second shot of
fortune come to help us...following the water for one mile we saw that
it was whirling around dividing in three branches...Exactly in the middle Carlos
saw what seemed an enough large sand place where to put down the copter.
After other three prudent round turning the copter landed raising nearly a
cloud of fine sand mixed with vegetation...Mr . Wilson congratulated Carlos
for his skill and we all began to look around after the sand rested...The water
of that seemed a little river was low and apparently there were no problems
to cross it in every direction. Main problem was instead to decide where to
put our camp. For obvious reasons it cannot be put too much far from there
but all together seemed to take the same decision: better thing was to explore
the hill. Carlos rose up his seat and bring out three "machete" well sharped
and we all proceded along the sides of the hill to find the best place.
In the meantime Lara activated the satellite in order to state the right
coohordinates of the place. It needed some heavy work but at the end we
got free from vegetation a good place that seemed protected behind the shoulders
from some big stones, which nature was again unknown to us. After other two hours
of work the little camp was installed and we were all tired and hungry....
At three o'clock we were eating a good lunch cooked from Lara, and at five o'clock
the first generator was buzzing illuminating the place...I accompanied Carlos
to the copter "Buena Fortuna Senor" and greatly thanked him for his precious help.
Seeing the copter raising I had for the first time the sensation of what it means to
be inside a real adventure,,,,,When I come back to the camp I saw Mr. Wilson
was already engaged examinating the rocks...I was sure he had the same
sensation I had,,,"Isn't true Mr. Doriano they are transported blocks...don't be
part of the ground that is rather different and clayey..."Is true Mr. Wilson I had
the same idea...." Tomorrow we'll begin explorating the rocks and seeing till
where they're located"
