I just finished soft resetting 3500 times to get my shiny Latios, it was worth it

yes, unless you consider saving in front of it, fighting it, if its not shiny turn the game on and off again repeat until pokemon is shiny

There is a way called Soft Resetting which I just heard of. You just save in front of the legendary and keep restarting the battle until it's a shiny. Sometimes it takes you a while but some say they get it in a day. Your chances are still a bit slim, but it's certainly better than cheating!
(Google the soft resetting guide because I think there's a combination of buttons which helps speed up the reset or something...)
