Next to Kaidan and Garrus, Joker is one ofΒ my favoriteΒ characters in the Mass Effect universe. I love that not only is he a wise-cracking badass who also happens to be the best pilot in the Alliance fleet, but also the fact that Bioware chose to portray a disabled character in a positive light. Vrolik's Syndrome (brittle bone disease) is truly a serious disease, and it doesn't just happen in the legs, but basically anywhere in the body, depending on genetics or such, so if anyone were to fall down on hard ground, they're done. Even though his illness restricts his mobility, Joker doesn't let it slow him down or disintegrate his determination and loyalty to Shepard, the crew, and the Alliance altogether, and that's what makes him a strong character. If there were a website for Bioware that I could write alot of praise for Joker's role and portrayal in the Mass Effect universe, I'd definitely write this down because it's true. You see alot of gay characters being portrayed positively in video games now, but disabled characters are a rarity, so I think that it's great that they did this.

I admit I've only played a little bit of the first game but one small question.... How is Joker standing? The bones in his legs are like glass. Amazing art just had that little question.

his bones are very fragile, but if he stands a certain way he can walk, in ME2 you play as him and he limps around... I know your comment was a long time ago but... idk, guess I'm just bored

You know, even now, I still don't get why he doesn't get a surgery to have the bones in his legs replaced with metal ones, or mechanical prosthetic ones.
Unless they don't have that surgery in the future. Kind of understandable, I think. Yeah, they can travel through space, accelerate projectiles to near light speed, modify the genetic code down to the location of a freckle (even though it's illegal), and have miniaturized factories in a holographic interface that can make razor sharp and white hot blades that can also help weld without any real protection, but they can't replace a man's leg bones with something stronger.
Totally legit.
