I do know of this. I guess I am used to seeing depictions of them in japanese erotica or specifically doujinshii. there's TONS of vergilxdante XD like that's standard in the DMC doujinshii. so it doesn't strike me.

Now this is really funny! I'm a big fan of Bouguereau and specially his darker paintings, so I recognized the inspiration straight from the thumbnail. Not a fan of yaoi things but this is fun anyway.
I don't know if this has been pointed out before or it is found irrelevant, but Dante and Vergil in the original painting are the two dressed guys in the background looking at the fighting men in disgust. Just wanted to make sure, people seem confused on that point. ^^

I've never seen that original painting before, it's pretty disturbing, esp. with the erotic overtones/subtext. I love how yours is actually gentler even though there's violence, the way Dante's hand is closer to caressing Vergil, instead of digging his nails in, and instead of literally biting his throat out like in the original, it looks more like a kiss. And Vergil doesn't seem to be fighting him too hard. I'm a sucker for that kind of push-pull dynamic, even though I'm only really familiar with the anime and not the game.
I really like your clean, smooth lines and colors.
