If the show I watched wasn't exaggerating, this is the only prop plane that won a dogfight with a jet. Of course, luck had a LOT to do with it, though. LOL.

I'm curious if it's the only one (propeller fighters were still in wide use in the Korean War), but it is evidently the last one. Especially noteworthy since the Skyraider wasn't designed for air-to-air combat, but rather air-to-ground attack. Still, her 20mm cannons would do a number to any jetplane they managed to connect with.

You are correct, one A-1 got a MiG-17 in a head-on pass...featured on the Dogfight show. This painting was a commission for the pilot of this aircraft...he was sorta famous within the aviator community for dropping an actual toilet from a bomb wing rack on the North Vietnamese...he did't want me to paint that though! (and his wife chose the background colors to match their living room...things you have to do to paint for clients.)
