Excellent, and somehow they always made the two-tone paint job work well.

..yes - I came across this old beauty just walking through the local neigborhoods .... it's like stepping into a time machine -old car - old house and garage ... and - yeah - two tone paint job was something that just kind of subliminaly registered in my admmiration for this plump beauty - thanks for pointing it out.

... I find old cars fascinating - but trying to photograph them in some unique way is quite a challenge ... so I will study your car shots .

hoaxeye In reply to DouglasHumphries [2010-11-15 19:34:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh, now it's unique we want! lol. I love the fact that this Packard is so bright and shiny. Makes me feel like a thievin' magpie. Good thing it's safely up in Canadia.

I don't know if I've ever taken a unique shot of a vehicle, I just try and show some aspect of the design that especially catches my eye.

This is sweet. I love old cars too. I used to have a Rover P4 called Humphry.* Sigh * He had a Viking Badge on the front and lovely red leather bench seats and was built like a tank with a stopping distance of one mile.
Just like this one in fact.

DouglasHumphries In reply to FalseMaria [2010-11-13 21:00:34 +0000 UTC]

..... now why was your Rover called Humphry ? ... ( my last name is Humprhries ..by the by ) ..thanks for the link ...your car looks more upper class with that grill than this old more plump and rounded Packard ( don't take that wrong )...but it's like I could see Humphry dropping off the Prime Minister at #10 - whereas this Packard would belong to some cigar chomping construction company owner ( I am right in saying that aren't I ? )

FalseMaria In reply to DouglasHumphries [2010-11-14 10:48:31 +0000 UTC]

Heheheh! You are spot on.
Thats why he was called Humphry ..its the kind of name that tends to bring to mind some kind of stuffy civil servant or Bank manager. It was quite incongruous as my hair was all different colours and spikey at the time.
What a beautiful car though. The engine was so quiet that when waiting at traffic lights it was difficult to know if the engine was still running. It had a lovely walnut wood dashboard and lots of dials and knobs and it smelled amazing.*sigh*
A friend of mine had a Morris Minor

[link]

He fitted a Klaxon underneath the bonnet which made a terrifically loud...HHAWWWOOOOGGGHHHAAA!!...noise.Great for scaring innocent pedestrians who wre very confused as to where the noise had come from and obviously not from that tiny little MM.

DouglasHumphries In reply to FalseMaria [2010-11-14 17:13:01 +0000 UTC]

" as my hair was all different colours and spikey at the time. " .... this is what jumps out of the paragraph ... I assume you are currently more mannered and tamed ... the wild and wooly 'Humphry' days behind you - driving a sensible car , wearing sensible shoes - with no incongruities apparent.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FalseMaria In reply to DouglasHumphries [2010-11-15 14:48:20 +0000 UTC]

Heheh...well not quite. I have never worn sensible shoes and don't intend to start now. I have worn Docs for 30+ years until last year when they gave up the ghost in Poland and I had to buy the local equivalent...which are much superior actually but don't tell that to the Doctor.
As for my hair ..well we do all kinds of things in our youth..that was the result of being a hairdressers model.
