Description This piece took over 3 months to generate. I originally built the model using an older Poser model, textured the boots and outfit, built the gloves, and got the lighting close to what I envisioned... but it just didn't look right.

I tried 3 - 4 different poses with different lighting and camera angles, but something just wasn't coming together. I sent some early samples to the guy that asked for the piece and he gave me great feedback - leading me to chose a different model and different clothes altogether. I rebuilt her from scratch.

But something STILL wasn't right. Vue just wasn't rendering the image correctly, so I upgraded my render software and got the body correct. But the face still wasn't right.

3 faces and 3 complete repaints later, Sunder Shock was finally a living piece! I've been working on this one since May - the most work of any commission to date.

She is a custom character created by a player of City Of Heroes.

Original commission requester chiming in here after all these years. On a lark I google searched my old character and this was the first result. Still an awesome piece and you had the patience of a saint in doing the commish. Hope things are good with you Doug.

Even so scantily clad she looks like bright but still naive Girl next Door. Her very first Superheroine Humiliation still ahead of her.

Are you the refined Villain who will give her that kathartic Lesson?
In short: can we expect more of her?

She is not my character, so I doubt I'll do more with her.

First let me say I really like the way this looks. You have managed to overcome (or at least reduce the impact of) several of the limitations of 3-D renders. Specifically I like her face and the electric effect is nice as well. That said i'm surprised no one has yet mentioned/noticed the scale here.
Looking at the windows in both the opposite and adjacent buildings and using them for a guide to measure the skulls on the roof would be about 20 feet tall even taking into account the distance between buildings and perspective.

Love the skulls too XD

Well, since everyone else seems to be complimenting the work on Sunder Shock and the background, I'd just like to say that those are the best Skulls I've ever seen. It's about time somebody did justice for the little street gang that could!

I don't see a lot of 3D art that I genuinely like, but this is definitely an exception. She looks so real and yet so fantastic. I like the lightning and the environment. I only wish she were more focused on the villains behind her. But on the whole, this is an enjoyable work of art.

This is really great, I love the dynamic in this piece, Poser artists come in all shapes and sizes and this once again proves to me that Poser is such an amazing medium which if you put the right amount of time and effort in to it makes things unbelievable such as this piece, I'm no were as good at Poser as I wish too be, for one i'm way too impatient to learn more, though I really want too

You show me how brilliant it can be, well done

Wow...*totally* awesome pic! The face is *fantastic* [and I only *wish* you could get streaked hair like that in CoH...LOL], the costume looks amazing...the electric effects are awesome.

Having the Skulls in the background was a nice touch.

I think there's two kinds of artwork that can be made with Poser: that which looks like it was made in Poser, and that which doesn't. I've never cared much for the former, but the later never fails to impress me. This definitely falls into catagory number two. It is an incredible piece of work. Good job!

DouglasShuler In reply to lilyinblue [2007-09-05 05:23:44 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the comments. I spend a lot of time and energy trying to get Poser renders to have life in them. I've been working with Poser for 15+ years and have become very familiar with it's nuances, both good and bad.
