Description
Mink was engulfed in snow. It violently whipped around him, the small grains slashing at his fur. Except... it wasn't snow. It was sand. The avalanche settled, and Mink dug his way out of a pile sand. "Transported again," he thought. The landscape had changed to something more familiar, a hot desert filled with crags of rock. Suddenly a shape appeared out of the haze in front of him. Mink stared at it in shock. It was a wolf, and something about it filled Mink with a sense of nostalgia. The wolf turned and loped away, and without thinking Mink took after it.
The wolf led Mink down into a canyon with a rushing river, where it bounded on top of the glistening water and headed upstream. Mink stumbled and almost fell. "WHAT?!" He now realized that it hadn't left any tracks in the sand. A spirit, then. As they continued upriver, the canyon walls grew tall and steep, and Mink realized they were entering his boundary. But the apparition ahead of him showed no signs of stopping. Soon they reached the end of the box canyon, and the walls opened up to sloping hills covered in pillars of rock. The wolf jumped on top of the tallest pillar, and looked down at him. They stared at each other for a moment, and Mink had the distinct impression of looking at himself in a pool of water. Then, the wolf faded away. Where it had been standing was another shrine. It had been a trick, Mink could now see. Once again he lashed out with violent energy and shattered the token sitting atop the rock pillar. A shock wave from the destruction hit him and burned deep, deep inside him. He cried out and fell to the ground.
