I must admit, at first look this picture is not too capturing, it needs a bit of time and a careful look to appreciate it fully. A few reasons for that can be spotted. One of them is the colours. While the river/canal, sky and light play a good role for framing and separating the buildings, landscape and general details the picture still remains a bit monotonous as far as colours go. On closer inspection, though, one can spot helping details such as the plant growth on the lower left, alternating with the brighter wall thus giving a good, lively feel. The trees, taller structure and, of course, church tower are a great stand-out element. The light does a wonderful job of also diverting the attention from the possibly distracting hills and empty in the background. The clouds work as a beautiful side-element to the photo. They excellently cover up the empty space left inside the photo, which seems to be unavoidable considering the sizes of the object. Returning to the river/canal, its curve also works well to sway the distracted viewers eye back to the main parts of the photo. Finally, the objects are well placed in key points of the photo and the unimportant parts are put into points that do not grab the attention (following the golden cut technique) or are covered by shadow. Overall - great photo, the colours let down a bit and give an almost flat feel, but everything else works to fix that.

The only way it could have been better if they hadn't been working on the church tower.
Very beautiful with the lighting.

Probably was the better choice to leave it. I don't think I ever have seen bad pictures of places in Switzerland.
