Another painting done at A.C. Moore’s….
I’ll be honest, I’m especially fond of this one—the foggy effect back in the distance, the telephone poles, the rocks, the water, the flowers…the bridge, specifically, since that was the main focus of the piece. How the rock pattern turned out is very satisfying as well. Although I think this is one I wasn’t fond of initially, it’s since grown on me, and I think it’s turned out to be one of my favorite paintings.
Like most of my big (16”x20”) landscapes, this was done at A.C. Moore’s under the teaching of Red Engle, who emphasized the importance of five brushes and five colors—you can get a lot done with just those. Red also taught us how to do acrylic landscapes in under five hours, and how to fix any mistakes made (“Wait five minutes, and then paint over it”), which eventually came to odds when I did it at my first college: finished the painting I was wanting to do in one sitting, and then was made to keep working on it for two weeks. Needless to say, that one is probably not seeing the light of day anytime soon.
On a happier note, with this one, like with most of my landscapes done after 2008, I eventually started brainstorming The Magicians’ Realm while painting it.
Done in Acrylic.
