True. But maybe for those exact reasons M knows that Reggie is the most likely of any of them to survive an encounter with Oblivion. After all, Oblivion only devours souls he deems unclean or unworthy. And didn't M call Reggie a pure and innocent soul back in prison? 
Also, good catch. Oblivion's concept was based loosely on a number of mythological characters. Ammut was one of them.
