Description
The Amicum Draco, or 'faking dragon', is a small, very distant cousin of dragons. Having lost their ability to fly long, long ago their wings and scales are used for display purposes, as well as to scare off the occasional predator. Another defense mechanism is to breathe a thick smog and then dart away to hide in the thick underbrush. Amicum's also lack the ability to breathe fire- this is because the same adaption that allows for flight in dragons (a helium filled sac-like organ) is also responsible for their fiery breath. Typically Amicum live in groups of 10-25, with a dominant pair leading their group. Standing at 18-20" and weighting about 20-25 lbs when fully grown, the females and males are roughly identical in height and weight, their main differentiation being the male's head crest being significantly larger once fully grown. During most of the year, both males and females are a brownish-red color, but come late summer/early fall the males scales will slowly transform into a wide range of colors, resulting in an Amicum rainbow! This is done in order to impress the females in hopes of breeding. Oddly enough, no two Amicum males within the same pack will become the same color, the reason why is still unknown, though pheromones are believed to be somehow involved.
