Description Season 1, episode 18: The Origin of the South Western Railway. First part.

It had been a few days since Thomas had that nightmare about Diesel 10 murdering Rosie. His behavior returned to the way it was before. However, neither of them realized that Brandon the SWR number 2 engine had been around when Daisy pretended to have been Diesel 10 and killed Rosie and seen everything. Shortly after that performance, Brandon went to talk to Ray, Felix, Lloyd and a few of the other SWR engines about what happened.

Ray: Are you sure what you saw?

Brandon: Yes I'm sure. She pretended so well that she looked exactly like him.

Felix: So it's obvious that they do know him.

Regi: Do you think they also know his younger brother?

Brandon: I don't know.

Wyatt: Do you think we should ask them?

Lloyd: I think it's the safest thing we can do.

Ray: Yes I agree. Let's go ask them tomorrow.

The next day after work, the NWR engines were resting and chatting in Vicarstown Yard when the SWR engines arrived.

Thomas: Oh hi guys.

Ray: Hi Thomas.

Thomas: Are you okay? I see you somewhat worried.

Ray: We need to talk. Brandon recently told us that Daisy pretended to be a BR Class 42 "Warship" named Diesel 10.

Rosie: Yeah, that's true.

Ray: We would like to know how you met him.

Thomas: Well it's a very long story. Are you sure you want to hear it?

Lloyd: We have all day. Go ahead.

Thomas: Okay.

The NWR engines told the SWR engines about how they met Diesel 10, about Lady, about the Magic Railroad, about the other universes, about what happened in 2000, about the sabotage in 2019 and how he sacrificed himself to kill to Phil Boggiston and save the railway.

Thomas: It wasn't really one of the nicest engines, but it was one of the bravest.

Lloyd: Wow, I never really believed he would do something like that after everything he did in the past, especially after his little brother died.

The NWR engines were confused.

Gordon: Little brother? What are you talking about?

Ray: Oh, so I guess you don't know.

Edward: Know what?

Ray: Diesel 10 had a younger brother.

The NWR engines were shock.

Henry: Really? He have a younger brother?

Felix: And you are not the only ones who have had problems with him, we also have, but we had more problems with his little brother than with him. In fact, Lloyd and I were the first to meet him and his brother. Long before the SWR existed. And it is also a very long story.

Toby: Do you want to talk about it?

Lloyd: Not really, but we will.

And this is the story they told.

Flashback.

Lloyd narrates: It all started when Felix and I worked for the British Railways. By then we were painted black, my number was 75 and Felix's was 86. It wasn't such a bad time. We had a lot of work and we were always busy. The truth is that we did not know much about the other engines and we did not have many friends. Until 1958. It was the time when diesel engines began to be used to run the railway, and it didn't take long for us to realize that they not only came to run the railway, but also to replace us. And shortly after that the BR Class 42 "Warship" was created. It was there that Felix and I met Diesel 10 and his younger brother. His name was Diesel 11. He was created after his brother and was the eleventh member of his class. By then that two was a big toothache for everyone, especially for the two of us. Diesel 10 was one of the rudest and baddest engines we ever met. He always played bad jokes on steam engines, always got us into trouble and always said that steam engines were just a nuisance. And Diesel 11... oh, he was much, much worse than his brother. He admired him so much that he wanted to be like him and he inherited many things about him. His evil personality, his hatred towards steam engines, but his was much worse than he's. They were just a headache for us, especially Diesel 11. We could no longer bear them. We couldn't make the controller kick them off the railway, so we asked him to send us to another railway, and that's how it went. Felix and I were transferred to the West Somerset Railway. We were finally able to get away from that idiots. We were able to go back to working hard with peace of mind. Until the BR Class 42 "Warship" began to be scrapped between 1968 and 1972. All were scrapped. Except two of them.

James: Let me guess. Diesel 10 and Diesel 11.

Lloyd narrates: Exactly. And worst. Diesel 11 was transferred to the West Somerset Railway with us and he told us that his brother was owned by a fuel company called Boggiston Fuels and it was modified with a claw which he called Pinchy. And shortly after that he came to visit. We were shocked when we saw his new claw. He had become very dangerous. But that thing wasn't enough for us to get scared. And since he was very busy with his new job, he couldn't be together with his brother. And that's a good thing. Diesel 10 was a toothache, but his little brother was so much worse, but the two of them together... oh, that was worse. And although Diesel 11 was not with his older brother, it was still a headache for us. And one worse than his brother.

Lloyd and Felix were resting on a siding when Diesel 11 arrives at the yard with some empty trucks.

Diesel 11: I see they haven't gotten rid of the steam pots yet.

Lloyd: Can you leave us alone? What do you and your brother have against steam engines?

Diesel 11: They are just a hindrance, they are unusable, weak and pathetic. But you have something that the others do not have.

Felix: It's because all those things that you and your brother say are not true. We may be old but we are still useful. Not like you.

Diesel 11: Don't talk to me like that. Diesels are the future of railways and you are getting in the way. And if the railway doesn't get rid of you, then I will.

Lloyd: Oh yeah? And what are you going to do about it?

Diesel 11: Oh, you'll see.

With that Diesel 11 left.

Lloyd: Yeah sure.

Felix: I don't know Lloyd, maybe you should take it seriously what he said.

Lloyd: Oh please Felix. What do you think that idiot will be able to do?

Lloyd narrates: The next day, I and Felix were asked to take a goods train from Taunton to Watchet. I could see that Felix was worried.

Lloyd: Is there something wrong, Felix?

Felix: Lloyd, I'm a little worried about what Diesel 11 said. Don't you think we should be careful?

Lloyd: Relax. That asshole couldn't do anything against us. Everything will be fine.

Lloyd narrates: Or at least that's what I thought.

Lloyd and Felix were soon puffing down the line, with the rails humming and the trucks rattling behind them. Work was going very well. But none of them knew what awaited them ahead. Diesel 11 was planting a trap for the two of them. He had put stolen dynamite on the rails where Lloyd and Felix were going to pass. He laughs wickedly.

Diesel 11: When those fools pass by here, they will going to be very damaged, that they will no longer be able to work and they will have no other choice but to scrap them.

Then Diesel 11 goes into hiding. A few minutes later Lloyd and Felix began to go through the rails in which Diesel 11 put the dynamite. Then they stopped when they saw a red signal, without realizing that the dynamite was under them, but they could hear the sound of the burning fuse.

Lloyd: Hey Felix, do you hear that?

Felix: Sounds like...

Then the two of them saw the dynamite below them and were shocked.

Lloyd and Felix: DYNAMITE!

Lloyd: RUN!

The two of them start backing up quickly, but it was too late. The dynamite exploded.

Lloyd narrates: Luckily we managed to survive. But we got very hurt. Well, I was the one who got hurt the most, Felix received the least damage. And our crews managed to survive too. After that accident, Felix and I could not go back to work, because we were badly damaged and the railway did not have enough money to repair us. In especially me. I was the one who got the most damaged and I was much more expensive to repair because I was the oldest in my class.

Henry: What do you mean?

Lloyd narrates: I am not a regular GNR Class J23. I am actually the prototype. And I was built in 1913, a year before the first World War started.

Henry: Wow.

Lloyd narrates: During my years in the war I managed to show that my class was very useful, especially me. But now that it was badly damaged and they didn't have enough money, they thought it was my time to be scraped. And since Felix was younger than me, he was less damaged and had enough money, he could be repaired. Only there was a problem. The parts he needed were not available.

Felix: Now what do we do?

Lloyd: I don't know. I am very old and my repair is very expensive.

Felix: And my parts are not available. There has to be something we can do.

Lloyd narrates: At that moment I had an idea. I notice some diesel parts near us and I thought what if we used those parts to repair us? It was there that the controller decided to experiment with us.

Emily: Experimenting with you? What do you mean?

Lloyd narrates: You have never wondered why I am so strong and why Felix is so fast?

Gordon: I once.

Lloyd narrates: Well... that's why... we are not just any steam engines.

Percy: What do you mean?

Felix: We are steam diesel hybrid engines.

The NWR engines were very surprised.

Thomas: Wait, steam diesel hybrid engines? You mean part steam and part diesel?

Felix: Yes. But we are more steam than diesel.

Ray: And they are not the only ones. I am also one. But my both parts are the same. But we will explain that later. Lloyd continue.

Lloyd narrates: When I told my idea to the controller, he decided to experiment with us and the diesel parts. After experimenting for a few weeks he saw that we worked very well with the diesel parts and that we could be much more useful with them. So he decided to use them to repair us. That's how Felix and I became steam diesel hybrid engines and how I had gotten stronger and Felix had gotten faster.

Rosie: How did it feel to become from regular steam engines to steam diesel hybrid engines?

Felix: It felt a bit strange, it was like we were born again. But even so that didn't stop us from being really useful.

Lloyd: Well I guess now that we are steam diesel hybrid engines we can do better things.

Felix: Like what?

Lloyd: Well, I don't know. Maybe pull more trucks than before, or maybe pull the express.

Lloyd narrates: Before long, Felix and I got used to our new abilities. I had become stronger than before and now I could pull 100 trucks. And Felix had gotten faster and his speed changed to 250mph. Now he could take the express. We became more useful than before and very popular. We also made Diesel 11 very jealous.

Diesel 11 growls.

Diesel 11: It seems my plan only made them more of a hassle than before. Now I have to plan a new strategy.

The next day, Felix was preparing to take the express from Williton to Minehead.

Lloyd: Good luck with your new job, Felix.

Felix: Thank you Lloyd.

At that moment the guard blew his whistle and Felix puff away. After that, Lloyd headed to the yard to do some shunting. When he arrived he saw Diesel 11 taking a few fuel tankers before he left the yard.

Lloyd: Well, well, well, what is he up to?

Meanwhile, Felix puffing down the line, with the rails humming and the coaches rattling behind them. A few minutes later he reached a crossroad and stopped to wait for the signal to turn green. He didn't realize that Diesel 11 was behind him.

Diesel 11: Time to end this.

Diesel 11 began to ram Felix quickly from the back of his train with the fuel tankers. But just when he was about to hit him he gets grabbed by someone from behind and stops him.

Diesel 11: What?

Then he looks behind him and sees Lloyd.

Lloyd: May I know what you are doing?

Diesel 11: What do you care?

Lloyd: I care a lot! It was you who put that dynamite that day when Felix and I had our accident, right?

Diesel 11: Fine, yes. That was me.

Lloyd: And why did you do it?

Diesel 11: Because you are the biggest toothache for me and my brother. You guys have caused nothing but trouble for us, especially when I get to this railway. And now you are steam diesel hybrid engines you are much worse than before.

Controller: You are wrong! They are better and more useful than before!

Diesel 11's jaw dropped when he saw the controller in Lloyd's cabin.

Diesel 11: Sir?! What... what are you doing here?!

Controller: Lloyd told me that you took some fuel tankers in the yard and they were from a train that was supposed to be taken to Williton right now. So steam engines are nothing more than a hindrance, huh?

Diesel 11: Wait, wait Sir, I wasn't serious. I swear it was just...

Controller: SILENCE! Nothing you say is going to save you now. I cannot have engines that try to kill other engines just because they are a nuisance in their eyes.

Lloyd narrates: After that, the controller send Diesel 11 away from the West Somerset Railway and we returned to the British Railways.

End of Flashback.

Lloyd: But that wasn't the last time we saw him. After Diesel 11 was send away, he ended up in the building of a railway that was being built at that time. The South Western Railway. But is it okay if we continue with that tomorrow?

Thomas: Okay.

With that the engines left the yard.

To be continue.
