I did this in Photoshop CS with my Wacom tablet. The background is about 50% photos (3 different digital photos I took) but I painted it quite a bit too. I had the sky painted pretty boldly and I liked how the overlay of the photo softened it.The character is a noble Lion warrior, Kyan Lareth.
