"I don't believe this!" The young male exclaimed in disbelief. "You're not saying that you will allow this... this..." he looked the Aleu up and down, scowled, and continued, "this MUTT to lead us?!"

The elder blinked slowly at the young male. The group of old wolves had just announced to the pack that it was a decided event that once Aleu gained enough knowledge and experience in the pack, that she would be their future alpha. But there were still those who held the obsession of true wolf blood in their pack. They would tolerate having a halfbreed around, but the knowledge that Aleu would be their alpha set the blood of one certain young male aflame. With light grey fur, he was once a follower of Niju before he was left behind across the sea.

"Now now... Aleu is strong, and strong-willed. With time, she can lead us. She was chosen by the great spirit, after all." The elder spoke calmly, with unmoving eyes as he gazed at the light-colored male.

The youngster snarled. "But she's a DOG! A house pet! I don't think she is capable of leading us!"

Aleu flattened her ears, her fur bristling. "I don't see anyone calling YOU their leader!"

The male glared. "You're not our leader, dog! If anything, our 'great spirit' must have been blind to pick you. You were a mistake, just like your halfbreed father!"

Whispering gasps among the other wolves could be heard. Aleu then snarled, she bowed up and her tail swished back and forth. "You don't know ANYTHING about my father! And the white wolf was smart not to pick someone like YOU!"

"You think you're better than me?!" The male snapped.

"The decision has been made!" An elder exclaimed. "Aleu WILL be our leader. There is no point in arguing with each other."

The young male then growled. "Then I challenge Aleu for the role of alpha!" He looked to the young female, and his eyes narrowed.

"Right now."

Aleu growled deeply, her tail rising as the male turned to her, his ears pinned back and his teeth showing. A female elder whispered in the ear of a male, and after a moment of silence, he spoke.

"Then you may have your match. Prove your worth."

I think Aleu would have to prove herself to the selfish eyes of others unwillingness to welcome her to the pack. They probably weren't ready to accept a halfbreed as their leader.
