Please…no…more…muscles…I BEG OF YOU!!!! My hand hurts….

This is the first real (well, sort of real) portrait I’ve done traditionally since…10th grade? That was about three maybe four years ago. Why I chose Vegeta….I don’t think even I will know. Something in me was reminiscing about the good ‘ol middle school days when I was a Dragon Ball Z fan. Vegeta always amused me…but why draw him NOW?!?!?!

Anyhoo, there’s quite a bit I changed about the prince here. He’s probably about...maybe 21, 22? Idk. I gave him a haircut and anti-balding treatment (XD) but still kept in his trademark spikes (the top one curving to the left and the overall flame look). His hairline is no longer THE GOLDEN ARCHES (well in this case, black arches… ). I toned down the muscle a bit just for a more realistic look (not bodybuilder look). Vegeta is strong, not just a guy with big muscles. Oh yeah, that reminds me. He’s not exactly SHORT…he’s compact (because he can still punch you into next year) and fun-sized ! I had him wearing King Vegeta’s outfit that was modified for a younger, more prince-like look (kept off the black sleeves, remodeled the “ab” outline on the armor, added a dark, cloth sash). I basically turned his father’s original armor into a jerkin/doublet like garment that is more flexible and comfortable. Vegeta isn’t a formal guy, but he’s still a prince thus the maintain of the basic fashion of his father (no matter how bad the taste XD). I put his tail in view for effect and he proudly displays on a silver tailband what I assumed was his family’s crest.

Also, is it just me or could he pass for a Native American or South American/Aztec/Mayan. Maybe it’s just me being tired and loopy and hungry at 2 in the morning…yay for eyebrows that are detached from the eyelids…
Also, I gave him green eyes because when he goes super saiyan, his eyes turn vivid teal. I figured he’s got to have SOME sort of color to his eyes naturally and cold green seemed to fit. Maybe I should have done ice blue…OR HOT PINK!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyhoo, this started out as simple sketch from boredom which then grew into an actual drawing which then turned into a detailed drawing, which then turned into a full portrait. This sucker took me about 4 hours…ignore the midget hand that has value issues. I’m not very good with hands yet 

My drawing and art, Akira Toriyama’s character…and I JUST learned today that Vegeta has a younger brother named Tarble. Hmm…give me another sketch idea…
