I am in LOVE!!! How are you making these? They are fantastic! Are you carving each leaf and vine and then soldering them on!! That is incredible! I am amazed.

Immensely beautiful both in the details (the shape, the leaves, the stone) and as a whole.

I must say that i have never worked with metalclay - i carve my models out of wax or other materials - so i dont know much about technique involved. From what i could imagine you can first carve and form the base (tree in this case) and then add the details separately (like leaves and acorns in this piece)? Wiki page also mentions considerable shrinkage - how badly it affects the work if you have to do something with certain dimensions?

Shrinkage it's not a problem - when you make pieces professionally the clay shrinkage rate is always the same, so you can easily calculate what you need. And sometimes shrinkage is a blessing - you can work with some elements meant to be tiny in a slightly bigger scale, which is somehow easier. However I'm thinking of trying wax carving - it would be great for me when making rings. And yes - my works in metal clay are mainly made in additive process - I add elements to each other. But you can also carve it in a traditional way when it's dry, but not fired. It's more or less like a plaster then.
