Even Jarin , oblivious to the world, Jarin, could sense the increasing tension at RidgeRunner Stables. Perhaps, because he was stuck right in the middle of it. It wasn't that Sydney  cared if Jarin rode English or Western disciplines. Hell, he could throw a tutu on and do the macarena, call it a discipline, and Sydney wouldn't give a shit. No, it was the fact that Tristan  fucking-Ennerstone  had wedged his way into RidgeRunner with his know-it-all attitude. Jarin was practically his puppy, frolicking after him wherever he went with that incessant phrase, "Tristan saaaaiid-" Like he was some God and anything he said was the Word. Sydney didn't like sharing his things. Jarin was his toy to push around. Not Tristan's.
At the same time, Jarin very much wanted to get back into Dressage. With Tristan around, he felt reinvigorated for it again! Abe  was slowly getting back into shape and he felt the same joy he had in the very beginning when he had started it. Maybe it was just the passion Tristan had for it rubbing off on him! How he could close everything else out around him and look so fluid and how he and the horse seemed to move as one. It was so inspiring and now with Tristan there full-time, now was Jarin's chance!
But there was no way he could just jump right into Grand Prix level just yet. Tristan wouldn't even allow it with the kind of riding Jarin was still producing. But there was a more suitable competition near the coast. A good way to dip his toes back in the water!
"Jarin, hey," Jennie caught him passing her office. She flagged him down to come in for a moment.
Jarin swallowed hard, feeling, for just a moment, maybe dread. He had been called in many times and usually because of some kind of disaster he had caused. He was pretty sure he hadn't heard any sirens that afternoon. He was sure he had locked up any stalls he had opened before. Maybe one of his horses died! Oh no! He sprinted into the office, "Which one!?"
Jennie plopped back down in her chair, looking at him with wide eyes. Maybe...he already knew what she was going to say? How intuitive of him...no, that can't be at all. Not Jarin. He was a nice boy, but not intuitive. She smiled politely, "I hear you're headed to Virginia with Abe? A dressage class?"
Jarin nodded rapidly, "He's not hurt, is he!?"
"...no?" She raised a brow. "Not...that I'm aware of..."
Finally, a sigh of relief. What a disaster that would be if he had gotten hurt. Tristan would never forgive him, for starters.
Jennie carried on before the conversation derailed into the madness of Jarinland, "I have a horse that came in a while back. Nice mare. She's supposed to have some nice qualities about her. I don't know what level of exposure she's had to shows. I'd like to have her out and kind of see if she's going to stay level-headed at a show. Would you be interested in taking her along with you? You could probably take her in a halter class if you'd like." Now, Jennie was definitely totally aware of Jarin's track record of crashing and burning, sometimes quite literally. There was a huge liability to send such a nice mare with him. On the flipside, she also knew how Jarin treated very valuable things that didn't belong to him. Like they were made of glass and may break at the slightest sneeze. If anything, he tended to maim himself in order to ensure no harm came to the other. And if this horse could withstand a period of time around Jarin...she'd be an absolute asset to the stable.
Jarin's mouth hung open for a moment, processing that he wasn't in trouble, nothing had happened to his horses, and he'd been offered another horse to use in the show. His heart fluttered at the thought. A little bit of fear mixed with excitement. He was being trusted with one of the stable's own horses! Not just anybody got to ride them! Only those that signed their name on the line next to the horse for a free-ride got to ride them! But he was being personally asked! What an honor!! "Is she pretty!?" Jarin couldn't help but ask the most important question!
Jennie grinned, leaning back in her chair, her mission accomplished. "Oh yes, she is absolutely gorgeous."

Jarin couldn't have agreed more with Jennie. She was a gorgeous mare, Rusi . Hair very similar to Abe's where it just kept going and going. As far as he could tell, she was such a lovely mare, docile and obedient. Jarin was smitten with her already. Having two lovebug horses with him on his journey was making his heart gush. Even better, both dressage horses! Unsurprisingly, he didn't get any texts back from Tristan or Sydney when he took a selfie of them both nosing his cheeks at the same time, celebrating his newfound friends. He did get a 'wow' back from Chris. Which basically meant Jarin was the coolest guy in town if even Chris thought it was amazing!
Upon registering for his classes, Jarin noticed the theme of the show was both western and English. Well...he could do both! And he loved both! And maybe if he rode both, the two trainers back at RidgeRunner would see that both disciplines were just fine! One wasn't better than the other! Why not do all of them!? Jennie said maybe Rusi could go into halter but...what if she did a western class instead? Yes! Show that it's not all bad! No matter the saddle shape!
And then Jarin saw a crucial detail he had missed. There was a costume option. Ooooooh, how he loved dressing up!! Had he known, he could have been Elvis! Or a zombie! Or zombie Elvis! But he didn't have any clothes or makeup to be able to pull that off!! All he had was his show clothes. No worries, he had his trusted source: Google. Google would know exactly what to do with a cowboy outfit!
And Jarin saw the most brilliant outfit he had ever heard of. He didn't even have to clock the link. And with a site called 'girls gone wild', he didn't feel like he was invited since he was a guy. But he could make the idea his own! It was called the Reverse Cowgirl but who said there couldn't be a Reverse Cowboy!? Jarin was feeling pretty impressed with himself. And everyone was about to get a load out of his brilliance, a gorgeous mare, and how he planned to unite the disciplines!
Jarin's bravado was quickly drained from his body as Rusi demonstrated her uncanny ability to not see a damn thing under her feet. The western riding pattern wasn't anything hard. It demonstrated the basic fundamental skills, really, any horse should have in a controlled manner. Just walking over the first pole, Jarin heard the click and clack of her hooves nailing the pole. Okay...now...maybe sitting on Rusi backwards wasn't helping. But how else was a reverse cowboy supposed to ride his horse? Facing forwards? Blasphemous!
But at least the log was out of the way for now. Now, Jarin had found himself in many awkward and interesting positions on a horse before. From backflipping off a capriole, riding on the butt of a horse after a buck, hanging underneath while it sailed over a jump, dangling from a neck, scrambling backwards to catch a burrito, bellyflopping after twisting off their back...the list went on. BUt this was a whole new sensation added into his book. Cantering while sitting on the horse backwards. It sounded a lot easier in his head. Now he was straining to look over his shoulder and dodging cones and trying to get his brain to squeeze the right heel to get the right lead change. Thank God Rusi was such a nice mare. Both of them were sweating about the mental toll it was taking on them. Neither one of them had been prepared for how challenging just swapping a discipline was. Easier thought than executed. Maybe uniting the forces of English and Western wasn't as easy as Jarin thought. At least not sat on a horse backwards with his pants coming undone since he couldn't get them zipped up properly...
And then the log came back. Jarin saw it as a finish line! It would all be over soon!! He smiled, aiming her straight for it! All they had to do was cross it and do a back up!
     CLANK

   FWUMP!
Rusi had sidestepped the pole, trying to go around it. When Jarin corrected her path, she hit the pole, rolled her hooves and lost her footing. She dropped to her knees, her hind end threatening to come up and over. "FFFFF-" Jarin bit his lip, mentally barring himself from swearing out loud so he didn't upset anyone that might hear. His butt slammed into the pommel of the saddle, keeping him from somersaulting down her neck. He leaned forward, a hand on her rump and tried to provide her a brace, holding the reins as hard as her could. OH GOD. If she got seriously hurt, he was done for! A nice mare like her!? Never in a hundred lifetimes, could he afford what she was worth!!
What on Earth had he been thinking? Certainly, if Rusi could survive Jarin, she'd be indestructible.

i didn't mean for it to get so long...

You guys voted for poor Rusi :''D
www.deviantart.com/drasayer/jo…
And now they know she's destined for Dressage. I don't see any show jumping or cross country in her future xD Okay...so I may have set her up for disaster because I need a good laugh every now and again. And bringing my characters pain delights me lmao Especially when it's awkward Jarin doing his usual awkward things. Like relying on the internet to provide a decent DIY costume idea. Which I did, indeed, do the same xD Thank you Google. I couldn't pass up this costume idea xD
For those of you that don't know what Reverse Cowgirl is, have great caution when Googling.
(although funnily enough...actually populated in the image search...jussayin.... Reverse Cowgirl Style  im honored)

I don't think Tristan will be getting to hear about any of this xDD
