Description This is a drawing of my beloved budgie

I am not very satisfied with this drawing. Have you any critique, feel free and let me know!
The light areas in his feathers are in real darker.

I think you did great job on the drawing! It has the feel of real feathers - especially around the wings and on the head and great job on the beak and eyes. And overall it has a 3D feeling to it which is great . (I see it's an old drawing from year ago so it's probably bit too late make a comment (I mean you probably made lots of other drawings since then and improved even more, but I always try to write a comment when I like something so yeah writing it anyway)
And budgies are wonderful, we've had many during the years (well I had them ), only one at a time, though never managed to learn them to speak and not always was able to domesticate them well. I have one now as well, he's old now (omg, it's gonna be 10 years I have him, I just realized! The longest any budgie was with us) and I'm afraid he's not gonna last for long now, but great friend he always was and still is .
Did you get a new one since this one passed away? (sorry to ask such questions not related to the drawings but I saw other comments and your replies that this one is gone now so I'm just curious. You don't need to reply at all of course )

Thank you very much for you comment and don't worry you are always welcome to leave a comment even the drawings are already old
I am glad you like the drawing, maybe I will make a other drawing of me and him together in the future as a memory of our time together (but I want to improve my skills more, it needs to be perfect ).
I didn't buy a new budgie yet. First I really wanted a new budgie as fast as possible, but I realize it would be better to buy one in the summer vacation since I have much more time to make the bird domestic then. Now his dead is less painful for me (don't understand me wrong I still miss him, but after a while you can give your pain a place) I think it is not smart to buy a new budgie. I am really busy at the moment. Next year I will go to a new school and this will be really tough for me, I will need to spend a lot time at school and will have a lot of homework. when I will buy a new budgie, I will give him/ her a fanatic live. They disserve it. He show me how amazing budgie can be. In the future I may will buy a new budgie, but now it think I can't spend enough time with it right at the moment and if I take a new bird I want to been able to give it as much love and time as possible.

And wow 10 years it so long, you are very lucky to been able to spend such a long time with your budgie!!
Is this one also domestic? Mine was really domestic I got him at an age of 5 weeks and the first months of his live and he really though I was his mother I even could sit with him in the garden

I totally understand with "his dead being less painful now" and it's totally right if you know you wouldn't have enough time to spend with him - especially at the beginning - that you postponed buying a new bird for later.

It's surely the longest that any budgie lived with us. And I hope he will still last a little bit longer
Well, he's not totally domestic like one can see on youtube videos for example. I admit I never was properly patient with domesticating, but he likes to come to me for some head rub and when he was younger he usually went out of the cage and followed me in the kitchen whenever I went as a little dog . (for some reason he never flied very much and preferred going by foot lol).
And sitting with a budgie in the garden - wow! That's an absolute trust. I probably would be afraid that he would get scared of something and flied away.

And yes they are the most amazing animals. I still mis my little boy, he was truly a wonderful friend.
He was my first budgie and he has shown me how amazing they are. He gives me so much love and i will Always have my memories of him. He was 100% domesticated and was Always flying in our house. When he was young, I even could sit with my budgie in the garden. Sadly he becomes only 3,5 year
Do you also have a bird as a pet?

Okammie In reply to DrawingNynke [2017-11-27 05:08:43 +0000 UTC]

I do yes. A little budgie named Joey. He's my second budgie. He was a present from my gran a couple of years back after my first little friend passed. Although he is not quite as tame as your boy was he comes outside sometimes and sits on his cage. But he is not secure enough to be too far away from his cage where he can go back inside when he feels threatened. But we're working on that I agree with you they make wonderful little friends. Joey is always signing and playing and keeping me company throughout the day when I'm by myself.....or begging for my food It really is a pity that their life span is not as long as other parrots because they have such personalities!

Ging me overal achter na, zo leuk,

It turned out nicely!! I like the details you made on his head and on the beak (how the feathers slightly cover the beak, it's so adorable).
The head seems a bit too much attached to his body - look at the photo, his head slowly goes into his back, not that his head is part of the back (if you know what I mean ). The way you shaded the wing is awesome, also the wing is a bit too short, but maybe it's just like that because of the perspective, though I still have feeling that it should be longer. There should be darker shading around the tail, this way it seems like the leg is growing right out of the stomach. Also, the stomach looks a bit too yellow, you could mix some light greens to make it more interesting (or it's just because of the photo, but I see mostly yellow, which doesn't look that nice with the green body. Also, the way how you left only white circles as highlights isn't that good, as they should be yellow and the area around green).
Legs could be more detailed, but are well shaded. The branch should be darker on the place that's directly under the bird and it would look better if it was more detailed and with some yellow on highlights.
I would say 8/10 :3 Well done with the feather texture by the way. I've tried to draw vulture and... it didn't look as well as I imagined. I'm thinking about trying something else instead

Thank you so much for this detailed critique, it helps me a lot
About the color of his feathers, I agree it is too yellow. In real is more light green and his head is more yellow.
Why must Always make the camera everything looks different

Too bad for you that your drawing has not become as you expected!!!
Maybe you can post it and can i try to give some critique if you like?
most of the time i learn a lot of redraw drawing from others. then i can see how they make shadows, what the kind of colors they use.....
Maybe it will helps you also?

Cameras are one of the worst things, when it comes to traditional art.. Get a scanner as fast as you can, if you want your drawings to be in better quality

I actually can't, I already threw the paper with the drawing away, because I was pissed XD but I'm working on something else now. :3

We have a scanner, but a simple one. i have use it once. and i don't like it, everything was too light.
And noooooooo. Never threw your drawing away!!!!!
I have a lot of horrible drawings when i was 13-15 years old.
I love it to look at them and see my new drawings.

Yeah, I have some drawings of dinosaurs when I was 6 years old... But believe me, this one looked terrible. And I can't find my sharpener, so it sucked to draw with pencils that aren't sharp.. ;w; (I need to buy new one, but I'm lazy XD)

beautiful work the texture of the feathers especially on the head is really good i think the feet could use a bit more texture and the wing is a little at the wrong angle making it seem short maybe add a bit of shading on the branch and it would be perfect
