Ah, well. Yes, there is a concept/"story" behind this, and yeah, I did intend to post it... probably needed. BUT. Don't feel like writing right now. Yeahh. This was actually supposed to be a New Years submission, but I got caught up with other things.I will say that I was pretty happy with this except for the, uh, background. Had a bit of a fiasco when I discovered that the watercolour paper I bought must have really been shorthand for "if you use watercolour on this paper it will cause the first layer to peel", or something.
Went over it with pencil crayon just to flatten the paper again.
Other than the sky, this is all marker. I wish I'd done the sky with marker.
...Hah... anyway... I guess I will say that I had the mythos of the birth of Pegasus in mind when I drew this. You know, him supposedly being "born" from Medusa's blood when she was beheaded.
That doesn't touch on the whole concept, but might help with some of the wtf-ness.
This'll be for theme 78 of the #100ThemesChallenge variation 4, because, well... Threnody is an old character, and why not, eh?
Hah, I have to say. Looking at this when there's metal playing really does something to the atmosphere. eue

The posing and composition here has a very 'epic' feel to it! I think it's because the top character is in such an overly victorious pose. I can really see how listening to a lot of metal would influence an image like this one xD I really like the detail in the bottom character. Those neck muscles look so tangled and knotted, it's great. Love the teeth, as always!

The eye itself is luminous. The lines over it are markings similar to those on her fingers.

I did that splatter at the same time I was inking the lines, using my red pen... I took a risk and didn't use pencil lines for that part in particular, I'm glad it turned out okay.

One other thing I like about your pictures is that you put effort in the backgrounds. I see so many artists who so often just leave the background blank that it's refreshing to see somebody who cares about making every picture a finished piece. (:

...how'd you do that with marker and what markers did you use?

I use Prismacolour markers for the blending and overall colour, and Laurentian markers for smaller details I don't want to blend at all. I start with the darkest spots first, and then blend lighter and lighter colours to get a gradient effect. I colour and shade small portions of the picture at a time, so that the markers can blend well before they dry. I think I started off colouring one of Thren's legs, and then moved on to stomach after I'd finished, and so on. c:

Oh this pic has everything on it! A background, cloths, weapons, and accessories! Wow I also noticed the wood grain like pattern on the weapons handle. That must have been a pain to do but it looks awesome!

I actually had a lot of fun with the accessories, having meaning behind all of them... the wood grain didn't take too long, I really enjoy drawing details like that, at least when it's only on a smaller scale. X3
